I have noticed with multiple characters, both in online and offline modes, that I enter zones with large chunks of health missing.
This can even happen upon initial login, so has nothing to do with what was going on in the previous zone.

The devs know about this.
It’s a weird one.
When you change zone/instance your character is generated without its gear. So you get your “base” life. And then the gear is reapplied, so your max health goes but not your current health.
