I’m running ~190 corruption monos and I find myself being completed deleted by AoEs.
I have full capped resists, 40% armor, 2k HP, 64% block chance and 53% block.
I can run around and hit enemies without any issue, until some AoE dot erases me the moment I touch it.
The death screen says something like I was killed by a 180 damage with 58 overkill.
The DoT is so fast that I can’t even dodge through these AoEs.
For example the void nemesis forces me to run away when he does the spinning blackholes because if I try running in circles around him the moment I make a bad click and touch them I’m dead.
Other times a “lion” makes a fire breath attach and I am dead before the fire animation reaches me.
Wouldn’t that be extremely inefficient? It’s a small percentage of a percentage, isn’t it?
On which items can that affix be found, though? I have it as a weaver modifier but not on my actual gear.
They all help reduce it. Gloves and sentinel body armour can have that affix.
You can also use an amulet with implicit of “less Damage Over Time Taken”.
Some uniques also have DoT mitigation and some stuff in passive trees/skill trees can also address it.
Most DoTs are ailments applied to you (though not all, some are on the ground, but those you can just step out of), so you can also cleanse them via several means.
Lastly, health leech works wonders for dealing with DoTs as well.
There are several tools to dealing with DoTs, depending on your class/mastery and your build.
If you want tips on how to improve your build to deal with them, post it here and players will help you.
Yeah, ailments or AoEs on the ground pose no issue.
My problems are all with DotS attached to an enemy attack, like the Black Hole vortex or the Fire breath I mentioned before.
Those skills hit harder than any telegraphed attack. I’m still trying to gather more life and defenses but right now I just randomly lose my whole life by being near that kind of AoE.
I don’t know the rest of your character, but from all stats you named here really only resistance and health help versus damage over time, so the others don’t matter.
Having capped resistances also really doesn#t help you that much if yo usacrifice other things for that. Resistances provide much less mitigation compared ot other games and only help versus that one damage type. So having more health or other forms of defense and/or recovery often is much better.
But 2K health is very little if you are a health build. And oyu are saying you are at 190 corruption already. 2K health is way too little if you are not a ward or hybrid build. if you are a health build you should get way mroe health.
Also what form of recover/sustain are you using? those help tremendously counteracting incoming damage voer time.
What is your endurance? Having 60% endurance combined with good recovery makes the health covered by your endurance very resiliant versus damage over time.
I just played around with a void nemesis and I think part of my issues stem from a slight discrepancy between the AoE animation and the actual damage zone.
It seems the damage zone is about 30% larger than the animation or it’s moving ahead of the animation, so even though I think I’m safe I’m actually getting damaged.
As another example, I’m fighting Lagon at 201 corruption, tried to roll through its beam but I got immediately killed by it.
2k life erased during the roll animation with the death screen saying “killing blow: 196 - Overkill: 93”.
Yeah, there’s no i-frames to LE’s dodge roll so you can’t use it to cheese mechanics that are intended to instakill. Though some travel/movement skills do have invulnerability (like the Rogue’s if you spec for it).
I appreciate that, my issue is more about the amount of ticks of damage I received in the small amount of time I used to roll through the beam.
I would expect 1 or 2, maybe 3 ticks of damage, but given the killing blow was 196 it mean I endured more than 10 ticks of damage in that amount of time which is what, 0.2 seconds?
Lesson learned I started using versatile reversal to pass through, still a bit of damage overticking in my opinion.
While other simply bypass the hitbox, instantly teleporting to the other side, instead of actually travelling all the way, like Teleport, Transplant the new Volatile Reversal.
