Endgame System Idea: Hyperbolic Time Chamber

  • Concept: Think DBZ hyperbolic time chamber; where you go to train and hone your skills, in a place where an hour in there is like 100 years in the outside world. In this place you will be able to advance your skills beyond what you could ever achieve in the outside.
  • Activity: Think Lost Ark’s Tower; where you make your way through, hitting milestones to unlock rewards, and the longer you are in there the more challenging it becomes. - Structure it however you want to make it fun, this was just an idea.
  • Rewards: The ultimate goal of this system should be unlocking modifiers on your skills that you would not be able to get elsewhere. Either it expands each of your skill trees an extra node and gives you extra skill points, or it allows you to add an extra modifier to an existing node on a skill tree. Of course, I think it would be good to include loot / target farming, like there is in the other endgame systems as well.

I think this idea would fit the theme of Last Epoch (time manipulation, etc), and I think this would be a reward beyond loot, that would help round out and finalize your build in the endgame.

Curious what others in the community, and EHG, think on this idea. This was an “I woke up at 6 am, and this just came to me” type of idea - so hopefully it actually sounds fun, and didn’t just sound good in my head.

If this is a mechanic for adding power you can’t get anywhere else, then it won’t be optional. If it’s not optional, that takes a lot of the “fun” out of it after the novelty wears off.

Blessings are a reward you cannot get anywhere other than Monoliths, does that make Monoliths less fun? I think if the reward is not game breaking, and the activity does not feel like a chore, then having unique rewards behind an activity gives you a goal, which in my opinion does make it more fun. But yes, definitely agree with you that if the activity sucks, and the reward is required, then it makes it less fun.

Yes! Farming blessings definitely makes monoliths less fun.

HAHA well alright! I think the blessing system definitely needs work, like the fact that you can’t go back to a blessing you earned previously for example. But anyway, it seems like we just disagree about what is fun probably, which is fine. Appreciate the discussion!
