Seems like the hitbox and collision effect for the Emperor of Corpses needs some fine tuning. when you get too close your character drags up the hitbox like you’re trying to run against a wall. This makes it feel like the dragon has “gravity” and slows your character down. maybe change the hitbox or reduce the collision effect somehow. Also rooting it would be nice. As it stands you can pull the emperor to one side or the other and leave one side of the arena with no escape zone for the mass AoE. Neither of these issues prevent the fight from being completable in any way but they would be great QoL changes for the peeps farming for the Twisted Heart / shield.
That would make the fight even easier, maybe too easy.
Being conscious of space and positioning are part of the fight. If you prevent him from moving (and he does not move a lot yet), he will just become a kind of huge health sack.
Welcome to the forum…
While he is a big bugger and has a fairly large hitbox, are you sure you are not getting slowed? This boss causes this ailment effect and it could be what you are experiencing?
Positioning of the AoE and moving him around to favour your attack is actually a strategy that you can use… if he were just rooted then that would remove this option…
It only does the slow for the first aoe. After that there’s no slow.
I’ve noticed sometimes he will focus on my minions and end up stuck in a corner or against the northernmost wall. One time he left me almost nowhere safe to stand with all the blood puddles. It was really hard to reposition him.
Once I killed myself by using Warcry: I did not see I had attracted him too much.
Yes, I do pay attention to my slow stacks from the zombies, and I do get stacks of slow during the fight (I haven’t ever noticed more than 3 stacks). What I’m describing further slows my character and feels like more of a collision issue for me, as getting too close to his body makes it feel like i’m trying run along a wall at an angle and dragging across it. As for the rooting, that is 100% QoL and could very well make the fight a bit too easy, since you do have to pay attention to how close to which side you’re pulling him, and know which side is safe to run to. That being said, the collision issue rarely (maybe never) is my actual cause of death. Admittedly, its usually simply not paying attention. It just always gives me a jump scare when I feel like I’m running in slow-mo in the blue cloud. with 3750 hp I can probably just rebuke through it on a level 90 run - I wouldn’t try that on empowered though.
Honestly cannot recall this happening in my previous fights but then I havent recently used a pure melee against him so not that close enough to him… Maybe you want to record the interaction in a vid and post a report in the bug section for the devs to look at… They might not reply but they do read the reports and add things like this to their to do list…
There used to be a few builds that could tank him, even in Empowered… Have done it myself with an old Paladin regen build but most of those no longer work due to changes in the game… If you time it well you could probably tank it
