Just wanted to take a moment to address some concerns that a few of our community members have brought up in regards to poor behavior in Last Epoch’s in-game chat.
First, we sincerely apologize that there are some messages coming through that have no place in any chat, let alone our community that is generally very positive and helpful. We have quite a few moderators and staff working over the weekend to monitor chat and are actively warning, giving temporary chat mutes, and even banning players in some extreme cases in accordance with our Code of Conduct. We are working on better tooling and reporting functions for chat as well. In general we have an awesome community facilitating good discussion about the game and we’re trying to make sure that a few bad actors aren’t ruining that for everyone. In the meantime, if you see any messages that are against the Code of Conduct, we encourage you to take a screenshot and submit a ticket to support.lastepoch.com. Again, we apologize and it’s on us to bring better solutions in the near future.
For those of you helping us foster a helpful and positive community by answering questions and having good interactions, we very much appreciate you and see you doing it. Please do not let a few individuals making poor decisions drive you away from the LE community.
Thanks for taking the time to address it and having moderators monitoring the chat. It’s refreshing to see a gaming studio actively participate in their community and directly involve themselves. Much appreciated!
As I like to play these types of games SSF, I’d rather not see chat at all. That being said, it is a feature for those who like MP experience. Unfortunately, you can’t fix human nature., uncluding that of posters. I am concerned when “the tail starts wagging the dog” and developers focus on chat policing rather than making a great game.
If it were me, I’d rather leave the chat unmoderated and let gamers sort it out, or I’d remove the feature.
That would be sad.
I’m not a huge fan of chat, but sometimes I just stay in game and don’t play, because I respond to players’ questions. There are several other players who do it far more than me. There is a very good lot of help in chat, it’s really pleasant.
Not legally permitted? Are you saying that game studio is mandated by law to police the chat? I am a bit surprised. Would you show me the law that governs this?
The owner of an Internet service is legally responsible for the content. That’s why there are rules. You have multiple examples in the past of sotes, forums, etc, closed because of lack of moderation.
It’s not always quite that simple, but broadly yes. I think EHG’s reasons for moderating chat (such as they do) is to provide players with a nicer environment rather than concern about potential legal issues.
EHG has both reasons.
They have legal obligations and they must be compliant.
They want users to play in a nice environment.
And they are positive people who prefer being surrounded by a positive chat.
I’m happy with the current state of chat as long as I can have an infinitely long ignore list that includes languages I don’t speak (which would be all of them but 1 ).
And I’d definitely want anyone speaking to me on behalf of EHG as a chatroom monitor to have some form of unique identifier on his account name for the same reason I don’t want police officers to pull me over in unmarked cars, with no badges.
I think if you are going to have chat room monitors, without any identifiers they should be restricted to reporting infractions/violations and not interacting with the player base in any authoritative manner.
Shtrak, do you have a source or an example I can look at because as far as I understand it, most ISP’s are hands-off? I could have swore the onus was typically on the IP owner/facilitator of in-game moderation?
The owner of the IP address is legally responsible for what they say individually, and the provider of the service is legally in charge of setting up moderation tools.
I understand what you’re saying, I’m asking if you have any sources or examples that I can look at? Also, does it vary on what country you’re located in?
Hey just wanted to suggest something to EHG.I noticed you have a few people moderating chat in game instead of say EHG__JaneDoe as it is right now. I would suggest changing the the color of EHG employees in chat to a different color text or add in some type of special symbol by the name. It would be a lot easier so people know it is truly a EHG employee and easier to pick them out when they are in chat answering questions or just hanging out.
