I checked /r/LastEpoch a few minutes ago, there are dozens of “EHG Reply” tagged threads, with some responses from less than an hour ago. Some feedback for you, you have official forums. Use them. Why even have this forum if you do 90% of your community communication through 3rd Party locations (reddit/discord)???
Someone postet a website long ago that filtered out dev responses from a lot of games on a lot of platforms at one point. EHG “left”, at least it feels like it, this forum a long time ago so if you don’t use reddit and discord you’ll most likely never be part of an up to date discussion because EHG is treating the forums on their home page like n ugly stepchild… that smells like crap… that does annoing noices… and shits in their beds. So maybe anyone got that nifty link I totaly not forgot to bookmark back then .
It’s really sad. Fatshark is another company who’s bad at communicating, but even they’re more active on their official forum than EHG.
That’s a shame. I left Reddit after the API fiasco and I’ve always just hated Discord for community discussions. Thread structure is so important for being able to keep track of a conversation and find things you missed. I know Discord technically has that feature, but I’ve seen a lot of these official Discords just not use that feature for whatever reason.
Well I hopped over to Reddit and it’s a cesspool like I remembered. Thankfully I got Mike to respond on Discord and answer some of the questions as well as reviving his response in a different thread. Still wish we had more activity from the devs on the official forums instead of Reddit. I get that Discord is easy for quick Q&As as it’s basically a chat room, but Reddit > Official Forum baffles me.
That one is easy, I’m a degenerate redditor and I just stumble upon epoch stuff in my feed while I’m looking at other topics.
Checking the respective EHG nicknames via Advanced search does show that latest activity are indeed mostly just patch notes and blog posts.
That being said, latest user activity here is nothing that requires commentary from EHG. You know, the “commanding urgent blabla” topic spam from that guy. Or the discussion about campaign difficulty, which has probably been discussed for years now.
Perhaps the questions on discord and reddit are more interesting / more worth of a reply?
Funny you mention that, because the “commanding, urgent, critical, blablabla” guy got what he wanted. He spammed about how commanding and Urgent Mastery Respec was. Mike says “were not doing it, stop spamming.” a few days later it’s in the launch trailer. I guess that’s how we get things we want now. I want Shaman to be reworked properly and to have a genuine class identity that makes sense (i.e., is it the Totem class or the natural disaster class?) so I guess I need to make 10 different topics talking about how critical, commanding, and urgent it is. Then when Mike tells me it’s never coming and how spamming makes him want to do it less, it’ll be announced for the next patch.
Edit: I know that’s not why they added it, but you have to admit the timing is suspect.
Tbf, that topic was not about mastery respec. It just diverted into that for a while. The topic was about respeccing skills with gold and keeping the max levels.
When I read that Mike reply, what I understood from it is that he was replying to the gold respec of skills, not mastery respec.
Especially because this was already 1 month or so after Mike said in another thread that he was no longer against this and asking for the players’ views on both sides.
So it’s possible that Mike really didn’t know about the mastery respec coming along and was surprised by it. But the emphatic no he said on the thread you referred to was, in my interpretation, about the respec skills with gold and keep max levels (which is just a variation of a loadou, really), and not about mastery respec.
Ah right. You know that’s not why they added it, but you’ll use it as an argument ANYWAY.
Unfortunately for you, there are many topics which have been discussed for years now - not just the one I randomly named.
You can find discussions about Mastery Respec as far back as 2020. So no, the timing of some random dude spamming “commanding urgent” topics on the forums in 2025, then a relevant change appearing in a patch in 2025 isn’t suspect, and it definitely isn’t how you get what you want.
I’m poking fun at the coincidence, not using it as an argument. If I genuinely thought that’s how we get things done around here I’d copy the method.
And bringing up topics from 2020 and them only caving and changing it after those spam topics just adds to the irony. It’s been a requested feature for 5 years with EHG constantly saying “no, it’s not coming.” and then after a spam thread it’s announced as coming.
That’s exactly what you suggested:
I guess that’s how we get things we want now.
And I don’t see anyone laughing.
You see, my source is a discord comment asking if you can respec mastery. The reply was no, and that ended the discussion.
So, you just turned two lines of Q&A between players into a 5 year old feature request.
So we have fallacious statements being thrown around and “fun” being posted in places where actual discussion is supposed to happen, within the lifespan of a single topic and single day.
And you wonder why EHG doesn’t reply here very often.
Sarcasm is a thing. I know it’s hard to read tone in text form I apologize for not adding a /s at the end I thought it was obvious enough. That’s what I get for assuming.
It’s been a requested feature outside of just discord. Steam Forums, official forums, and reddit also contain requests and questions about this feature and even the latest (which I admit didn’t start for this topic) the answer was always “no.” until it was shown in the launch trailer with no communication from EHG that they’ve changed stances.
This topic was already addressed by Mike and we’ve effectively closed the discussion until you stepped in and wanted to re-open it. At this point I got a half-joking answer from Mike because I’d already been engaging with him on Discord and in other threads. Why would I go back to serious debate about it now. They’ve clearly seen and heard my feedback that the official forums need dev representation just as much as Reddit and Discord.
You do know their discord has been around for longer? Just doing a quick search in ask-the-dev channel for “respec mastery” shows this discussion as early as 2019. Didn’t even bother trying different wordings or other channels.
Mastery respec has countless threads on this forum, for years, and the same thing happens on their discord (and I assume reddit as well).
You make it sound like reddit doesn’t have any of these. Overall, I’d say the forums are much more moderate than reddit, but they still frequent reddit more.
I’m aware. I mentioned the spam topic after all.
No, the topic wasn’t closed, so I also didn’t re-open it. Is this meant to be another poor attempt at sarcasm?
Why do you need this explained?
This is a public discussion and we who frequent these forums are not telepathically connected to you, so we don’t know that you decided the topic is over. Even if you decided so, we are still allowed to chime in with our comments.
Similarly, we also can’t always tell when you switch between discussion mode, sarcasm mode and offtopic/fun mode. Apart from /s we have emojis, gifs and others tools to convey that.
I know.
If Scipo0419 really wanted to tell us how ironic this is, he could easily search the discord just like we did, and get the correct year.
But as you can see, that didn’t happen.
That’s the second example I used - “discussion that’s been discussed for years now” - not a thing you wanna keep replying to over and over again. And another reason for why suggesting the spam topic played a factor in the announcement is ridiculous.
I don’t frequent reddit.
I’d assume the fact forums aren’t an app on the phone is a factor in what gets frequented more often.
If you want to argue for the sake of arguing. I’m done. My post was to address the fact that EHG spends significantly less time in their Official Forums than they do Discord and Reddit. You confirmed this when you said:
And tried to give the devs a pass by saying “but nothing here is worth responding to.” referencing the “commanding urgent” spam they got. I pointed out the irony that that spam topic was the last major topic on the official forums before mastery Respec was officially added and used sarcasm (without adding /s) to joke at that being how we get results. Mike responded here, after I said that I’ve already chatted with him and expressed the final wish that we had more activity from the devs here, with self-deprecating humor about him being a degenerate redditor.
It was at this point that you, again, agreed that EHG isn’t active of their official forums. Which we’d already established is a problem and tried to be playful with your “perhaps the questions on discord/reddit are more interesting” with a wink. So, I playfully went along and now here we are with you tearing apart anything I say as if I’m being 100% literal.
There’s a saying I want to share with you “whatever anybody says or does, assume positive intent.”. I didn’t take your first reply as negative hence why I played along. You immediately assumed I was being hostile and negative. If you want to sharpen your pitchforks and light your torches at anyone expressing dissatisfaction with EHG then that’s up to you. But I’m not attacking them. I’m not creating spam posts. I’m not slandering them. I’m giving them feedback as a consumer and they’ve clearly seen it.
So I pointed out how you decided to use an invalid concept as an argument, despite knowing well that it is invalid, so I clarified for any other readers that spam topics are definitely not the way to get changes.
And somehow it became “pitchforks and torches” in your head, and suddenly I’m against “expressing dissatisfaction”?
I never said you cannot give feedback. Maybe you should apply your saying about positivity to yourself first, and maybe also stop making up meanings that aren’t there.
But hey, at least now your post contains actual examples of irony.
One is you telling me to see things in a positive light after failing to see my comments in a positive light.
The other is saying “I’m done” and then posting a wall of text.
