Effects that trigger while channeling Warpath (and other skills) need a rework

There are multiple nodes that trigger something while channeling, for example “Winds of Justice” casts Smite every second, Dark Nexus grants mana every 3 seconds, Forgemaster’s Stance summons Forged Weapons every 5 seconds and Abyssal Tempest casts Abyssal Echoes every 5 seconds.

What all of these have in common is triggering an effect at very specific time interval AFTER you have been channeling for specified duration.

In theory it sounds ok but in practice and in real play session it feels like complete dogs***. In reality you just tap the skill between packs and many times don’t even channel for 1 second.

Having to alter this convinient playstyle into permanent channeling feels REALLY bad considering the inherent move speed reduction from Warpath and also your mana that needs to be spent for these trigger effects can’t regen while constantly channeling. Of course you can take Dark Nexus for mana, but not only that mana gain interval is desynced from other trigger effect timings, but also you have to spend many points into a dead end on the tree.

My suggestion would be making all these effects to trigger at the start of the channel but with a cooldown, so you couldn’t just spam-tap the ability. If that would be too OP, just make the existing cooldowns longer and make it so every second spent channeling it reduces remaining cooldowns.

Could it be that you havent accepted the concept of the channelled skill design?

I personally love Warpath perma channel spinning from one mob to the next without stopping and I benefit from the nodes that trigger accordingly. Its sort of an accepted way to play. Lots of other skills that channel almost “require” you to channel them for at least a minimum duration to enjoy the maximum benefits.

If you are playing a channelled skill with tapping and never channelling for 1 second, then it would make no sense to take these kinds of nodes if thats your playstyle.

yeah, to me it sounds like OP wants to turn them into buttons he presses where he gets two presses in a short time, he hits warpath, gets some hits and procs some spells and then can do other stuff in between?

Warpath is designed in a way that is all about warpathing. if you dont wanna warpath for long stretches, take the nodes that reward stopping the channel like warslash and the ramping cost/damage bonus.

Slight dereail but nodes that would turn channeling skills into non-channeling skills with cooldowns would be awesome. Warpath becoming a large third hit of rive basically, disentigrate leaving a spinning beam on the ground, focus providing mana Regen but not instantaneously anymore. My favorite part about LE is the variety that skills have and I’d love to see more with channeling skills.

That’s not the reality for 99% of everyone else using warpath. It wasn’t designed to be used that way. While you’re free to use the skill how you’d like, don’t be surprised when it feels bad. No game rework needed.

There are plenty of skills that would be better suited for this style of play. Spells like the acolytes “Elemental Nova” or Primalists “Earthquake” are more suited to jumping into a pack, hitting your skill then moving to the next pack.
