I have no actionable feedback here or anything in particular, just getting some thoughts out.
Right now, to me, the dungeons and arena don’t feel like something I should go do whenever I get a key, or something that provides a meaningful alternate general progression path to the Monolith. Instead, I just save them in bulk for when I want to specifically farm the reward for a given dungeon/arena. Is that the expected behavior? I feel the messaging is a bit confused in that case, but I don’t know if that’s on me and my expectations of what the drops signify. When I first saw the dungeon keys I went “heck yeah let’s go do it right now and see what comes out of it”, and I got smacked around by the boss so all I came out was a pile of random loot I could have easily also gotten from Monolith. I was fairly caught off guard by this, as it was a tier 1 dungeon (Timeless Sanctum) that I was overleveled for and had been breezing through Monoliths at the time. To me, it felt like I just need to study the mechanics more, but that further cemented to me that it’s something I should farm en masse rather than intermittently, so that I can actually get experience going and not come in each run trying to refresh my memory. Even discounting my butt getting kicked, the rewards for finishing the dungeon seem pretty specific to farming specific items you need and not ‘wonder what good stuff will pop out of here’ like when I’m wandering the Monolith.
Just my thoughts on the topic - I’m nowhere near smart enough to figure out what can or even should be done about dungeons, but I figured more feedback couldn’t hurt.
That’s fine 'cause that’s not what they’re intended to be. They’re intended to be an alternate thing to do when you want to, if you’re looking for specific things (either the boss-specific uniques, lots of exalted items or you want to make some legendaries).
They are also intended to have mechanics that you need to adhere to, like the mono bosses. The t1 dungeons are also intended to act as a campaign skip for alts if you know what you’re doing & have very good gear.
Yeah, that’s reasonable, though I’d say that the Lightless Arbour doesn’t entirely fit in that category with it acting as a gold sink to potentially get lots of nice items.
So from my understanding the purpose of the Dungeons is not to provide an alternate mode for gear and character progression. It’s more an addition to the main system - monolith.
For the Temporal Sanctum this is more obvious as it is the only place to craft legendary items. And it is a great place to just farm for exalted items.
The Soul Gambler (Soul Bastion) offers some cool stuff like items with sealed affixes.
The Lightless Arbour is a gold sink.
Just play it exactly how you feel. I’d also save up some keys in order to make more than one run in a row. But currently the Dungeons, despite having kind of random layouts, offer too less variery/replayavility. Its not something I’d do for more than one playing session.
Also you want to bring the dungeons to your level by unlocking the appropriate tiers. On tier 4 the dungeons, especially the bosses, are no joke.
