Does Void Aegis apply to the hit that triggered it?

“If you take a hit that deals at least 25% of your max health as damage, sacrifice a void essence to gain Void Aegis for 4 seconds, which grants a portion of your maximum health gained as endurance threshold.”

Does this mean that the game calculates that you would be dealt 25% of your max health, consumes the essence, grants bonus endurance, recalculates the damage if it is within the threshold, and then subtracts it from your HP
or
The game notices you lost 25% of your health, consumes the essence, then grants the buff?

I would hope it’s the former because it’s a big spike of surprise damage that I would buy this node to account for.

I’d go with the latter. I’d only expect the former if it said something like “if you would take 25%” or “if a hit would have dealt”.
