Does doom brand scale off minion stats?

I’d have thought that the zombie death explosion would scale with minion stats given the skill is described as “Explodes caster dealing physical damage to nearby enemies.”

try it on a dummy you will see. use the same weapon with added minion spell damage and without it, damage is the same.

Melee skills are still referred to as “cast”. You can see examples of this in nodes of Shield Rush, Forge Strike, Smelter’s Wrath, etc.

I haven’t bothered looking if there’s any example, but I’d assume that “direct cast” affixes for melee skills would still be called that.

Yes, but the bit I italicised was that it explodes the caster hence it should be the zombie that’s the caster & scale with minion stats. So if the zombie explosion is scaling with player flat damage then that should be a bug.

Zombie’s on-death explosion definitely does more damage with +minion spell damage. With no weapon equipped (& an unspec’d Zombie) the zombie was doing 1,082 damage on death, with a staff with +85 spell damage & 0 minion modifiers, zombie was doing the same damage. When I equipped a wand with +19 minion spell damage (& +59 player spell damage) it now does 2,300 damage…

Doom Brand, with no weapon equipped was doing ~240 damage, with the same staff it does ~1.2k, with the same wand (+59 player spell damage & +19 minion spell damage) it does ~950.

So Doom Brand clearly scales with flat player damage & Zombie pops scale with flat minion spell damage.

interesting, and weird, for zombis it shouldn’t be

I feel like it should though, since it’s a subskill that the zombie “casts” once it reaches a target.

Why do you feel that it should scale with player stats?
