When I press C and look at the critical strike chances… let’s say I have 15% critical strike chance and 20% spell critical strike chance. Does this mean I have 35% spell critical strike chance altogether because critical strike chance applies to all hits including spells? It’s confusing on how this works.
5% actual crit chance is your base anything that says increased critical chance is multiplying that % of 5% … 100% crit chance increase = 5% crit chance more so 10% total… this is basically how PoE does it. I never really liked this system (same with Cooldown Recovery Speed as opposed to just CDR) I prefer the Diablo say what you mean system which you do see in certain passives where you get “+critical chance” that gives you an actual chunk of critical chance.
There are also affixes on weapons etc that basically add +% critical chance to like melee etc that add flat crit chance.
Yes, they stack additively. Each %inc. critical strike will apply additively to their respective skill types.
So you assumption here is correct:
There are some crit chance which are not shown in the character sheet, so be aware that you might have more crit than the character sheet indicated.
Example Physical Spell Critical Strike Chance or if you have conditional flat crit chance on a skill or skill spec tree.
If you took those figures from the character screen then no. The character screen will include all applicable non-skill specific modifiers. So that 20% spell crit chance is calculated from an assumed spell base crit chance of 5% (which it almost always is) then mulitiplying by the sum of all the generic % increased crit chance and % increased spell crit chance.
If you took those figures from gear or passives directly then yes.
Oh, I just noticed that when hovering over critical strike chance in the character screen. It says “non-skill critical modifiers”. So if I use a skill that has points in %critical strike increase, that raises it even higher for that skill?
IE, if I have that 35% spell critical strike chance and use a skill with 50% increase, I’ll have 52% total critical strike chance with that skill? 35 / 2 + 35 = 52.
Yes.
Only if the 50% were a multiplicative modifier, which are exceptionally rare for crit modifiers.
Assuming the skill’s base crit chance is 5% (which it almost always is) & it had no other flat crit modifiers, you have a total of 600% increased crit chance. Adding 50% to that would give you 650% increased crit chance → 37.5% chance to crit (5% x (1+6.5)).
Cooldown Reduction and Cooldown Recovery Speed use different math.
100% Cooldown Reduction reduces the cooldown to 0.
100% increased Cooldown Recovery Speed recovers the cooldown twice as fast.
Increased Cooldown Recovery Speed can never lead to instant cooldown reduction. Each time you double the amount increased, you cut the half in time.
100% increase (200%) leads to 50% of the base time.
300% increase (400%) leads to 25%…
700% increase (800%) leads to 12.5%…
That’s why the distinction is important - it’s two different tools for the devs to work with.
It requires less mental maths, but +5% flat added crit chance mathematically identical to +100% increased crit chance.
oh is there any reduction in this game?
And reduction of what?
I mean I thought cooldown was purely recovery speed in this game I didnt realize there was also cooldown reduction
As part of some skill trees - sometimes you get additional cooldown recovery speed, but sometimes it is also a reduction or increase of the base cooldown. It can be a flat value like +1 second, or a percentage value like +20% or -50%. I forgot which skill it was, but you could bring some cooldown to 0 with 2 nodes a -50%.
It’s not achievable as a general affix on gear.
