Do Alpha backers have to use steam to play Last Epoch?

So I downloaded the beta from the alpha launcher and also connected my account to steam.

I prefer using the alpha launcher to downloading and playing than having to go through steam, is that ok? Will I at some point in the future need to switch over to steam?

I play without my account linked to Steam without a problem ^^
Just need a true offline mode to break the game with mods…

There are no plans to make Last Epoch available through any one store exclusively.
