I’m currently a paladin specced into Divine Essence (“DE”) and have noticed it doesn’t seem to proc appropriately. I use Javelin with Holy Trail and Warpath with Way of the Cleric. Those skills seem unable to proc DE despite both healing on a per second basis. Similar skills that share the wording with DE, such as Prayer, do seem to be activate by the healing of my skills. It seems others have noticed this issue in other contexts as well. See Javelin Banner of Restoration node interaction with Divine Essence Passive - Bug
I do seem to be able to get a DE, but I also have Holy Symbol. Given my inability to get more than one stack of DE, I believe my Holy Symbol activations are what proc the DE. The issue maybe an inaccurate proc rate, limited healing skills can proc it, or only healing ACTUALLY done can proc it, which makes it mechanically distinguishable from Prayer despite having the same verbiage. Hope this helps and thanks for a great game.
I was healing, but not getting healed. If you are correct, then why does Prayer still activate? One says healed and the other says heal, but I don’t think tense should control a mechanic.
If you weren’t gaining life you weren’t being healed therefore the Prayer/Divine Essence procs shouldn’t occur. Prayer used to have a bug where being over-healed (you’re missing 10 hp but get healed for 20) wouldn’t proc it.
Also, it’s possible that Divine Essence (up to up to 30% chance to proc) just failed the RNG check when Prayer (guaranteed proc) doesn’t have one.
I wasn’t getting any Divine Essences from Javelin (spec’d for either Holy Trail or Banner of Restoration) or an unspec’d Judgement. I was getting them randomly from an unspec’d Smite & Healing Hands.
Looks like with Javelin & Judgement aren’t proccing Divine Essence but they are proccing Prayer appropriately.
I think the big X-factor for me is that Way of the Cleric in the Warpath tree is proccing Prayer regardless of whether I am hurt, e.g., when I am in town, I can Warpath and get the healing effectiveness buff from Prayer. I assumed that this would mean that I could get Divine Essences the same way with the caveat that the proc rate is only 30%. Regardless, in town I was never able to proc Divine Essence and in the field I would proc it but never frequently enough to get more than one stack. I found the likelihood of never getting a second stack statistically improbable given the rate at which I was healing.
We looked into it and found that Divine Essence excludes healing over time. This is something we did not put on the tooltip and will correct this so it doesn’t further confuse players.
