Did I miss an update today?

Yesterday was one of my best days on LE, finishing a couple of EMLs for the first time ever (with only 1 death in 4 hours; totally my fault, by the way), had (2) other characters make good progress through the lower Monoliths, even got some much-needed upgrades.

Now this afternoon, I’m getting the absolute shit kicked out of me (same EML as yesterday). My best character had already died 7 consecutive times, mostly due to ridiculous Champion mods (or doubles), no potions (again), and so many big hitters that I could not see the ground. My L62 Druid was cruising all weekend, now the clear speed was so slow as to be a complete waste of time.

I know these types of games have a ton of RNG. But I’ve never seen anything like this that wasn’t related to a nerfing patch. Has this happened to anyone else? I know I’ll be back on later tonight after the smoke (in my head) has cleared. I’m still having too much fun to retire again; my result last year from the 1.1 release and the God-like Wengari Avalanchers.

There hasn’t been a Patch or Update in the past few days, so no.

Have you looked at Monster Modifiers? Keep in mind that once you start empowered Monoliths, Modifiers you pick up by running an Echo will stay for a longer time (for a number of future echoes). These can really sometimes brick a build - I played a very fast attacking hit build, that was heavily countered by “Enemies have a chance to dodge”, so maybe there’s something.

Or did you run slightly different content? There’s some big powerspikes in Monster Power, depending on what echoes you run and what type of Weaver Tree you have (generally Woven Cemeteries have more and stronger monsters, certain Weaver Tree Nodes can increase Champion Spawn Rate or even double the encounters, certain Woven Echoes are just very difficult relative to other same level content - think Super Arenas for instance).

Thanks a bunch, this gives me something to look into. I have not paid any particular attention to the Weaver Tree, so that could definitely be a contributing factor. As far as the Echo bonuses, how do I mitigate that? Is it as simple as restarting the session/game? Or do I need to wait for a bit and play an alt?

Echo modifiers last for 3 echoes. They shouldn’t have a big impact on your gameplay with the 1.0 change over a year ago.
To clear them, just complete other echoes and you’ll have different modifiers.

It’s not likely that echo modifiers are your issue. It seems more likely that your build isn’t properly geared up for empowered monos, you just managed to finish a few for whatever reasons.
You should just post your builds here and people can give you advice on how to improve them.

I know my build is underwhelming at the moment. First time playing SSF: the gear has been lacking, to say the least. Never been this far, either, so I’m trying to learn on-the-fly.

I did reset my Weaver Tree, got rid of the Champion mods (not sure why I picked them).

Yeah, Champions are harder than other mobs, so you should avoid them until you can handle them.

Did you join CoF already? That will help you tremendously with your gear drops.

Also, there’s no shame in going back to the normal level 90 monoliths to improve your build for a while. You can even increase their corruption to get better drops.

I did that for a while, probably need to do it again. I do alright against single Champions; it’s when they spawn in a huge pack of others that hit in large areas (like Profane Fleshes) that I have troubles. I still haven’t resolved the discrepancy in potion drops, though; even Echo bosses drop them, but the damned Champions just don’t.
