Damage taken spike in Empowered Monolith

You have the facts, though.
If someone tells you they would never kill anyone and a year later they kill someone, do you go “No, they said they would never kill someone and that’s the last information we have on it”?

They added content that requires 1k corruption to complete, at minimum. That is a clear statement that “Oops, 1k bad” is no longer appliable.

And here I wondered why I’m dying on lich so much.

There are damage spikes that straight one shots me, like I barely survived lagon’s claw attack at just 100 corruption with 2K HP and 10% dmg redirected to DoT, some ward and full resists.

I couldn’t outleech the rift beast cold cyclone and what I’m reading it I’m positive it’s overtuned. Some other rift beasts attacks as well like tongue slap too dealt like 2K dmg, despite there are no indicator of it comming because I can’t see through explosions on screen.

Started out as lich, despite being “veteran” since EA I noticed such damage spikes that I get simply offed instantly - leech/no leech. Fire breath attack of draal larvas was not nerved at all, even buffed if possile cuz they shred me in like 1 second if I stay in it. At 0 corruption.

Tried to tank emperor of corpses blast with death seal - at 0 corruption I barely outleeched the DoT that resulted from it. Can’t imagine using the method at 100 corruption or higher.

Boosting damage was definetly NOT the way, I don’t play dark souls games, and I never clicked with PoE despite trying it for numerous times since synthensis league.

So far my best ARPG remains grim dawn. It was pretty 50:50 with LE last league, but these damage spikes brought it down the scales a lot.

I can’t comment on rift beasts yet. just hit empowered today and somehow it feels like they vanished, barely find any and it seems I will start avoid the cold cyclone and poison pool altogether if possible.

Just got to empowered a couple hours ago on Necro and those dang ballista dudes with necro fire lol, didn’t see them off screen. I gotta buff my armor and searching for some better gear.

This is the rippiest LE patch that I can remember. I am fine with being on my toes, but being one-clapped becomes boring. I wanted to play Lich but gave up and back to Warllock. Still, at mere 100 I die to a sneeze (like the flock of birds that appear and dive on you in the “protect the beasts” woven echo)., I am glad to not lose XP on death but it is getting a bit too much.

I hear you. Next time you are at the evolve screen, you can terminate the line before evolving it all the way. Cut your losses and net on the beast beast.

I’ve just got to the point where I can face tank basically all of the T4 dungeon boss attacks and 250 corruption has been pretty easy so far. Hopefully by tomorrow I’ll have my 3 farming monos all set up at 300.

My biggest defensive leaps were definitely after getting Foot of the Mountain for full hp as endurance threshold and 60% endurance. Reaper Form can also be a nice defensive tool as it lets your intellect scale your armor. I also scale necro resist into ward per second.

You would be quite correct.
to recount my lived experience as a decently built Primalist druid:
during season 2 at 500 corruption as I was comfortable being able to do that, I have had no problem surviving quite a lot of strong attacks from a majority of enemies & bosses, I could even go toe to toe with standard abberoth and defeat 'em. And sure I would extremely rarely get killed by a group of goldthread apostles or big groups of dangerous enemies if I got a little bit complacent, or even clapped by abberoth if I didn’t play ball with the bosses mechanics, hence being able to defeat him a few times in the process as a result in following the mechanics since knowing is half the battle. & I am very quick to pick up on boss fight mechanics over time.

now enter season 3 with the enemy “balance changes”: now suddenly even stray attacks one would normally survive are now instantly just killing my druid from out of the blue despite having 60% endurance (with 1700+ endurance threshold as I use it as a primary form of defense) high resistances above 70%, 1-2 red rings of atlaria, less DoT damage taken via inheritance of the erased necklace & dedication of an erased primalist, damage reduction from ursine strength & cornered beast, 10000+ armor, 100% reduced bonus damage taken from critical strikes, etc.

I kid you not, more attacks from the shades of orobyss (especially the fire based one) are one-shotting even moderately built travelers at high levels of corruption & I can already imagine how near impossible it is already going to be for me to deal with abberoth, & forget me trying to do threshold of eternity, If I thought I was ever going to be able to do it now, forget about it. early to mid-level players just practically got gatekept out of doing high corruption monoliths as the “balance changes” to enemies, was really & indirectly just a nerf to almost every viable defensive build, which in turn, ended up invalidating a fair chunk of already existing defensive options within last epoch essentially making the game less fun not just for me, but possibly for others wanting to give it a fair go.

Am I missing anything?

I do. I take people by their word. If what EHG devs say aren’t the facts something is completely wrong. We can simply agree to disagree because you start to sound like a broken record, for a lack of a better word, defending the void blance is in LE.

Don’t sweat I was oneshot by a random champion in normal monos while my defences were fine. Now I scrambled my whole gear with some updates and have no more defence left or hp/ward to write home about while taking the node that caps these stats at half and I run through the game with no more oneshots.

On the other hand I play a Sentinel and everything that gave me a “hard” time leveling my Lich is a non issue on the Sentinel. Balancing is just a mess :man_shrugging: .

Gotta say, game is pretty much cooked. This game used to be fun, where you could try interesting build and gear combos, meme builds, ect and have alot of fun. Now its just a slog, a second difficulty increase and purchase by Krafton only leads me to believe that this game will go F2p and things like stash tabs are gonna get monetized.
The entire campaign is just a slog now, even with a decent build, and fighting champs, nem during campaign is a miserable experience. After 900 hours, if they dont decide to reverse course this is the end for me.

Yep something is very off I agree. I’m a Void Knight as well with 2.7k health, 2.7k armour and maxed resists. I’m finding it to be the things added in season 2 to be the problem though.
Mainly those Woven Echoes. I really think those haven’t been balanced at all for empowered mono’s. I get their meant to be harder because of what they offer, but things hitting me for 3-5k damage is just rediculous.

I’m not defending their balance. There isn’t one. I’m just saying they gave up on their previous balance goals and created a new one, which is Uby.
Because they never addressed this publicly anymore and because the content they added to the game shows this.

Current balance is as bad as it was in 1.1 when they had that goal. Changing their balance goal doesn’t make the game more balanced. It just means they are aiming for a different spot.

And i say they don’t. We don’t have to move in circles because you make this when the last real information was 4 digit C is a mess up. You don’t have to repeate yourself ^^.

I just don’t understand how you can still think that.
Do you not believe Uby is in the game? Do you not believe you have to be 1k+ do it?

Because the existence of Uby clearly disproves their previous claims.

Honestly, to me this is no different from mastery respec. They also always said they would never add it, then they added it. So that means that their last real information on the subject (which is still “We will never add it”) is clearly wrong.

I’m not trying to be stubborn or try to fight you. I’m genuinely just trying to understand how you can still believe that despite the evidence that this is no longer true.

I don’t think debating phantom reasonings behind “balance” is really worth the time. Or “difficulty” since that is relative. What isn’t relative is the frustrating experience of being one-shot. It happens, you shore up your defenses, and it happens again. And again. Random abilities at a corruption level that you walk through while watching Youtube videos are 1-shotting you. It’s a frustrating experience and will lead to players leaving the game. Minion AI still sucking? Eh, work around that a bit. Other bugs that cause FPS drops, probably work around that. But 1-shots when you have max res, 2.5k hps, decent armor, and are playing corruption 150? What the heck? I’ll see you after you patch that BS out.

Im finding that the more gear I get the less damage I take. Crazy how that works!!!

Personally, I’m already on the verge of giving up on this season.
I’m playing at around 400 corruption now, and I’m starting to see 5k hits in the death logs —
having nearly 4k HP, good endurance, capped res, 60% reduction from armor, Titan Heart’s 15%, and Void passives…
Sometimes Champions just send me express to the afterlife with their out-of-nowhere abilities…
I’m heavily invested in defense and feel like wet noodles in 400 corruption…

abandon all hope and just go into full deeps, maybe they saw that we shouldn’t be doing 1k-2k corruption and added some extra 0’s to the damage or something.

I’m finding that to not be the case. Just died in only 148 corruption on my endurance stacking pally with 2.8k HP and 1800 endurance threshold, max resist, 60% endurance.

Think I’m done with this season. I just don’t understand the damage chunks it’s not even remotely fun. Especially when I’m building defense and still getting nuked by 1-2 hits.

Then a woven echo before this death in I think the forgotten king, with all the fire lizards 2 hits from their fire balls did 90% of my HP. It should be doing 5-10%. My HP shouldn’t even be moving in this corruption with my defenses.

Idk guys. This isn’t it. Raxxx just made a video on improvements too and the damage spikes were one of the main things listed that EHG needs to work on. Not sure if I have any motivation to keep playing if on every build this is going to be an issue. Think I might be out GL everyone.

I give this season a 3/10 and that kinda hurts being that I love Last Epoch.

Edit - I do want to say I think act 10 is beautiful, the improvents to Merchant is great, the new items are really cool. It’s just this gameplay and season feels souldraining. LE at it’s core has a rention problem and it’s because they haven’t solved immersion yet and progression flow.

This season feel tedious. Gameplay feels like tedious chores. I did have a lot of fun theorycrafting before the season but then I log in and I want to log out.

I agree, damage received across the board has been raised to inappropriate levels reserved for the nose bleed edge lords. I also agree that formulaic copying of a mold like POE is disappointing and VERY MUCH want to avoid “souls” like gameplay. Real life adulting requires I “dodge” enough I dont want it in my gameplay also. Something I got frustrated with early in my experience of LE that I didn’t know how to put into words, but the concept of a hack n slash turning into “Dance Dance Revolution” triggered me. I am not so insecure that I need to inflate my ego to have “mad skills bro” and have that some how makeup for tighter game mechanics or good character designs. These kind of games are interesting to me if they are intellectually stimulating and or offer power dynamics with discovery and adventure. Please dont do development trope drugs.

This season is giving me the exact same aggravations that S1 did; maybe even more, to be honest. I’m holding out hoping that if/when my AoD/Flay Lich gets to Empowered Monos that I’ll actually have a character that can survive and advance. My main 2 characters from last season, Spriggan Druid w/Cold minions and Dancing Strikes Rogue, are both getting their collective asses kicked when they used to beat most of the challenges, excepting only bad mods on Rares/Champions.

I’m only playing an hour or 2 daily now, sometimes not even that much. The game reminds me too much of POE when you got to Maps (getting a migraine just thinking about it).
