Damage conversion question

Lich passive “Decaying form” convert 50% DoT damage to poison. What if I have Blossom of Immortal Stone that convert 100% poison to physical? What that 50% damage would be? poison or physical?

I would expect the amulet to take precedence & the damage from any poison to be taken as phys DoT, but any natively phys DoT damage (ie, bleed) would be split phys/poison.

That make sense yeah, thanks.

Things can only be converted once in LE.

The priority if multiple things (try to) apply is always: Items > Skills > Passives

What happens if 2 items try to convert the same thing? I assume there’s an order there as well, but is it known?

Skills usually tell you which one prevails if you take both and I don’t think there are 2 passives converting the same thing for any mastery, but I expect the “double” item conversion could happen reasonably easy.

Conversions happen at the same time, so there’s no order needed.

If you have 100% physical to poison and 100% poison to physical, you’ll basically switch the values of the physical and poison damage you had before conversions.

If you only had physical damage you would only end up with poison damage after conversions.

Source: trust me bro, it’s how it works in Grim Dawn and I asked a billion years ago probably in discord.

What if you had 100% physical to fire and 100% physical to cold? Would you end up with fire or cold? Or both?

What if you have 50% phys to fire and 50% phys to cold? Do they apply at the same time and you get the same value for both or does one apply first and the other one second, so you end up with 50% fire, 25% cold and 25% phys?

50% fire and 50% cold. So basically when you go over 100% they get converted proportionally to the conversion’s %. Don’t make me math it.

You should end up with 50% fire and 50% cold and no physical.

Not sure actually.

Not on my computer right now, but off the top of my head I think there are no two items doing conversions for the same thing yet that are not mutually exclusive.

I think the devs are very aware of these type of effects and try to not give them on too many items anyway or make them mutually exclusive. Maybe there is some kind of logic already implemented, but it is just not relevant.

EDIT: I just remember Sentinel idols have conversion of damage taken as. I think this should/can collide with some uniques. So maybe there is a logic for that. Not sure.

Not quite. There is at least one instance of this happening with Natural Wrath converting earthquake into lightning and Bhuldar’s Wrath converting it to fire.

You can wear both at the same time, so using both what would earthquake do?

Maybe there are more instances (I don’t really remember) but conversions do tend to be specific to a skill, so it’s rare. LE doesn’t really have generic conversions (like “Fire damage is converted to physical damage”, it always has a specific skill as a target), so I guess it’s rare, but it’s bound to happen more as we get more uniques.

So, with amulet passive “half DoT as poison” and any other from passive/skills doesnt work right? Hmm, okay thanks, guys!

About the specific interaction with the 2 items I linked above, I actually found a Mike answer on discord:

“if earthquake has both fire and lightning conversions, fire wins.”

It does work for the initial element. But the converted damage that you will receive as poison cannot be converted again through any means.

So you can still convert the other 50% that you didn’t convert to poison to any other damage type (or also poison), as long as you can fit in more of these effects in your build.

Which is what I said initially.
