I really wish there was a damage calculation tool or something. The character sheet doesn’t go up when you put on items so really most of my damage calculations are looking at the tooltips, but they don’t tell you everything. Like I’d like to know what my bleed per stack is, or what my bleed chance is on the base spell but it doesn’t update the tooltip when I level the spell except it shows an increase or decrease in dps. I have no clue how accurate it actually is though, because like with my puncture spell, how do i know what the ultimate damage potential of my mutilate is when i can’t see how many stacks is currently on an enemy, and my base bleed damage says its 197, and i have +5 stacks on bleed stacks on my third hit, but i don’t see it doing 5 stacks of 197 on enemies, or anything close to that.
Indeed. DPS calculation is still very inaccurate in the new first iteration of DPS tooltips.
Minions have not even that.
I asked one of the devs 2 months ago on stream about more informations in the tooltips and he agreed/confirmed that the players should be able to see more details in regards of damage.
Possibly new tabs for each slotted skill in the character sheet where you can browse each detail to your heart’s content.
But i dont expect it to come anytime soon, considering how long it took them to make even a simple (still inaccurate) DPS tooltip.
Till then the best way to gauge damage is still the target dummy, for skills that can attack neutral entities.
I really would like to have a combat log.
The tooltip DPS are nice for a rough comparison, but don’t work for builds that rely on specific passive/skill interactions.
Having a combat log - at least for the dummy - would be really nice.
Theres just too much information put into a few damage numbers that are hard to read. You can’t tell how much of your ailment tick is from bleed, poison, ignite or doom, etc.
I can imagine that a tool that creates statistics from hitting the dummy in a certain time frame is relatively complex to create. So I get why this propably is not on the current priority list.
So what about a combat log that just displays the raw data in a separate chat channel. There you could separate the numbers and make conclusions about your real damage. Would this be too complex?
That’s what the dps tooltip is for. It’s not perfect, certainly, but it’s not too bad. It won’t include certain things which are effectively unknowable, like the mutilate damage since that depends on the number of bleed stacks on the target which the tooltip can’t know.
It generally does, but the problem with the character sheet is that it double counts generic damage. For example, if you had a passive (or item) that gave +100% damage, that would be included on every line on the character sheet, so if you’re trying to work out your Time Rot damage, the +100% would effect both void damage and DoT lines on the character sheet. Also, the character sheet doesn’t include effects that don’t have a line, such as “ignite chance for fire skills” which isn’t included in the ignite chance line.
That’s on the “other” tab.
That’s also on the “other” tab though it doesn’t include any modifiers from the skill tree (which Puncture has quite a lot of).
Leveling the skill up doesn’t actually change anything, applying skill points does which is when the tooltip changes.
Yeah, the tooltip won’t be including the Mutilate damage since it doesn’t know how many stacks are on the target. That said, since that node just makes bleed stacks do all of their damage immediately, and the tooltip does include DoT damage, Mutilate wouldn’t actually have any effect that you would be able to see on it.
Also, Puncture is a skill not a spell.
And I believe @Dammitt is working on a dps calculator. And the devs are working on the character screen to include skill data.
Edit: Also, if you’re purely using Disembowel (which you wouldn’t be), it wouldn’t actually work with the Mutilate node on Puncture since that node states that every 3rd hit does not apply bleeds.
Yeah so I think Mutilate is bugged.
I played around with it for like a half hour with the test dummy and not once could i consistently figure out how many stacks were on an enemy, and it would randomly mutilate.
Sometimes my first puncture shot would mutilate, sometimes the second, sometimes the third. I don’t know if its choosing the mutilate shot off of the puncture count, or the amount of shots my bow has shot.
If its off the amount of shots my bow has shot, even that doesn’t seem to work right.
I have a crazy high bleed stack consistency and i figured out that if i turn off mutilate, it does WAYYYY more damage, so yeah, i don’t think its working as intended. If anything, I think its cutting off all stacks immediately but not applying all the stacks.
The second I stopped using it I started blowing stuff up way faster with bleed.
