Customisable Masteries

As the spellblade mastery rework shows, it’s impossible to please everyone no matter how well-intentioned the change. Suggestion is to change the mastery passive from a fixed bonus into a customisable one as a mini passive tree separate from the mastery tree.

One possible suggestion:

  • Every mastery gets three branches. Selecting one branch locks the other two branches.
  • Branches have multiple nodes up to 4 nodes deep.
  • Root node is always a scaling bonus for points invested in the mastery tree (e.g., +1 int per X points allocated in mastery tree). Other nodes can be anything (e.g., +1 summon limit to summon wraiths).
  • Players have fixed 4 points to allocate however they like. There are no further points to be obtained by “ascending”, to make clear it is not the same system as ascendencies.

I dont belive that creating exactly 3 branches is the answer, but i do believe that the tree is small and to narrow, you most of time endup puting 10-12 points in only one passive because of the cost benefit of the rest. I belive that expanding more the passives tree of the base classes and masteries could benift the game, also add something like you said, a path to chose, one node that locks another like “fire aura now converts to lightning and releases waves of lighning every second” but you will need to chose between that and “fire aura gives you 1% damage”, making it a choice of specialization, more damage source or a damage multiplier, right now they can’t do that because someone could just take both options.
