I’m a bit confused and lost with all the updates, played it long time ago and looking to come back.
So as far as I understood currently, they just released online.
So I need to create a new online character?
Are there any more acts or major changes to story mode expected?
Are there any more character resets expected?

You can continue to play your offline characters in offline mode (noting true offline mode not quite available yet).
However, if you want to play with other people, you have to make a new character.
There are 9 chapters currently.
Chapters 10, 11 and 12 have no specific ETA but last i heard 10 is due with 1.0
No more expected resets. Online characters made in 0.9 will migrate to “standard” cycle (online season) when 1.0 is released
Thanks! I guess I’ll give it another try then and create a second character once all the chapters are out.
