On paper between my skill specs and items I should have either 45% or 135% crit chance (depending on how celestial precision works), however for some reason I have only 6%.
“Ring of the Third Eye” is supposed to give 30% but instead gives only 1%. The -30% crit multiplier is working however
The “Celestial Precision” node from mana strike seems to do nothing at all. It’s hard to tell from eyeball test. The tooltip makes it sound like I should have 100% crit chance if I have 100% mana. Maybe that’s not how it works, in which case I think the tooltip needs to be adjusted for clarity. “base crit strike chance equal to a percentage of your current mana” is somewhat ambiguous and could mean that if I have 100% current mana/ my total mana pool I have 100% crit chance. If what it actually does is add crit chance equal to an undisclosed % of current mana total, those specifics should be added into the tooltip. Underneath the tooltip, it says my current mana > crit chance is 10% so I assume it’s the latter, but again, I think it needs a clarity update. Even assuming it’s supposed to be giving me 10% crit chance, my character sheet says I have only 6% total. I thought maybe it just wasn’t showing on my sheet bc it’s only for mana strike but I decided to test it on the target dummy because it felt like it wasn’t working. After spamming attacks on target dummy to test, I crit 16 times after 300 swings, roughly 5%. I know 300 is a pretty small sample size but it shouldn’t be THAT far off if I’m supposed to have 16% crit chance (5% base + 1% ring + 10% node). Maybe the -5% base chance is not included in the 10% the tooltip is showing in which case I should have 11% but regardless, something isn’t working here.
Edit: There is another thread that reported the issue with the ring. Apologies for doubling up on the reports but I decided to make this thread in case there is some wackiness happening where the ring is causing issues with other crit modifiers.
Ring of the third eye gives you 30% increased critical chance (This is not flat crit) Seems to be working as intended. For example base crit is 5% to achieve 10% critical chance you would need 100% increased critical chance
Ah ok, I’ve never seen crit not be additive in a video game. Isn’y every other stat in the game also a percentage but gear/skill bonuses are additive? Seems overly convoluted for crit to be calculated differently but that’s fine as long as I understand how it works. Regardless, something doesn’t seem to be working properly with my current set up. Maybe the ring is not interacting with the celestial precision node?
There’s two types of crit chance modifiers (ignoring spell/melee) - flat added crit chance and increased crit chance. To calculate your skill’s crith chance you need to add up all the sources of flat crit (5% base, some caster offhands have some flat spell crit chance as an implicit, flat crit on skill nodes tends to be small single figure amounts), then add up all the sources of % increased crit (from the sound of it you just have the 30% from the ring) and apply it.
5% + (1 + 30%) = 6.5% rounded down for the character screen.
Celestial Precision modifies your base crit chance for Mana Strike (so it doesn’t show up on the character screen), you don’t say what your max or current mana was but if you had 200 mana, Celestial Precision would add 10% of that as base crit (+20%) and subtract 5% for Mana Strike. Then you apply the % increased crit as usual. That should give your Mana Strike a 26% crit chance so something does look wonky. Could you upload your character into the build planner and link it?
Oh ok, I guess I was just misunderstanding the way it works in that case. I have 124 mana, so I’m barely getting any crit chance from the node. I’ve been preconditioned by other games to think of crit working differently so it threw me for a loop here. Thanks for explaining.
There are so many weird things going on with this build, idk how much of it is user error or if it’s bugging but enchant weapon is stuck on auto cast and neither enchant weapon nor flame ward show up on my buff bar so it’s hard to tell what’s happening when.
Because that’s the modifier it applies to your mana to calculate the crit bonus, it’s not the crit bonus, I think you’re confusing the map for the territory. 187 mana would give you 18.7 added crit for a net +13.7 added base crit.
Oh ok I’m a dumb ass apparently, mb I was thinking that auto cast node meant it would recast upon the expiration, I’m actually going to spec out of it considering that’s not the case.
By the way, am I right in assuming the tooltip does not incorporate crit multiplier or?
So say I switch between exactly same weapon but one has also 20% crit multiplier. Will I see a difference in tooltip?
EDIT: can add that removing a sword, or switching with a dagger, shows no change in the character screen either to multiplier despite having ‘cold steel’ from spellblade, meaning it should be updating/changing by 120%. Or is that some ‘in-situ’. It’s hard for us to tell if things are working as expected then though.
