Short Version:
Let’s say the game’s already fully released. LE’s first-ever Season/Cycle ended. Question is, can I still make characters or keep making/deleting characters for that ended cycle?
Long Version:
Maybe this question doesn’t make any sense for any seasoned veterans out there. It’s just I have some friends who might play this at 1.0 and I don’t think they’re a fan of “new start” every few months.
I don’t think LE has like an easy “reset progress” button to start all over. Because back then, I had to delete my save files stored locally but that didn’t work for a few times when I attempted. I kinda forgot already how I managed to fully delete my previous progress and prevent steam from syncing. So I’m hoping playing in a new cycle would be my shortcut because I’m a lazy bastard to “start over” together with friends without having to bother deleting stuff manually in my computer. I’m not sure though if it’s easier to do so now.
I never really played/joined seasons/leagues in other ARPG so I don’t know how this works in regards to my question.
Also off-topic. Hello EHG, it’s been a while since my last post, why my forum name has changed? And I can’t seem to change it in profile settings.
Yeah, going forward, that’s what cycles/seasons/leagues will be. If you want a new/fresh start, you’ll probably want to create a cycle character. When a cycle ends, I’d imagine (based on the other arpgs that do leagues) that you’d need to wait for a few days for the new cycle to start if you want to create a new cycle character, but it’ll be in the new cycle, not the old one (as that’ll have ended).
If you want to play a cycle character with friends that don’t want to play cycles, I think that might be a problem as I don’t think that you’d be able to play together.
No, once a cycle’s ended, it’s ended. All cycle characters would be migrated back to standard.
There isn’t one, but on the character list you can delete them one by one. It shouldn’t take more than a minute to clear all your characters, though.
Characters are stored on the server if you play online. If you play offline they will be stored locally, meaning you can delete them manually, or use the interface instead.
As far as I understand, there were some issues with character saves when LE implemented MP with 0.9.
If playing online, a new cycle is a sort of start-over, meaning your stash is empty and your resources start from scratch. But past cycle characters are now in standard. So you get 2 choices: either continue with those characters for a longer gameplay experience or start fresh with new ones.
Spare characters will still need to be deleted, though not manually since they’re on the servers. But you’ll have lots of character slots. Right now the limit is 20 but it should be increased for 1.0.
It is a real pain.
I was looking forward to a fresh start when I got my new computer, but the silly Steam Cloud brought back everything. I couldn’t manage to get properly rid of it (granted, I didn’t try too hard).
Characters have very little to do with a fresh start, if anything at all. This is about gold, shards, and stash.

My bad, I totally forgot that pretty much any ARPG does this. But this answers my question. Thanks.

I could do this but there are some problems:
Clearing stash and I have lot of tabs
Gold will be retained unless I spend it all first
Crafting materials will also be retained
But I guess I don’t have other options. And you are absolutely right about online play, yeah it’s saved on servers that I also forgot.
Also, just to clarify. Once a cycle character was moved back to standard, it won’t have any restrictions, right? Like let’s say “can’t put items in stash” or stuff like “items from this character can’t be used by other standard characters” etc.
That is true, but I was assuming you would then join the new cycle (meaning you start fresh again) and your main issue was getting rid of old characters, maybe for slot space.
These are things that will probably stop me from playing as much as I have been.
I would like to play the new cycles but if I have to go through that campaign again I might go crazy. Even with the dungeon skips, you have to go through half of it. We need to be able to COMPLETELY skip all of the campaign…at least if you finished it already.
The other thing is how slow levelling is from 60 onwards. Most average or even above average players will never reach 100 in a cycle…then what? Do the damn campaign again next time?
PoE does fine without letting you skip or shortcut.
But I can take a strong cycle starter build from start to all idol/passive in probably 3-4 hours. You can do non twink runs all slots in probably 1.5-2 hours at the highest levels of practice. I wanna say the speed run record for twink is sub 1 hour as well.
As for post 60 leveling, uhhh thats the meat of the game, you wanna skip it? you get the majority of your passives by 75. You only have 25 passives left after 75. They do matter. but its not gonna make you crazy strong vs not having them. By the time you hit empowered you can easily be 75, then after hitting 90 is pretty casual and easy. The last 10 points dont matter too much.
Post 60 I’m saying I would like it to be just a little faster.
And even if it’s possible to do the campaign part to get idols and passives in 1.5 or so hours it’s still going to be annoying to have to do it with every character. I’ve already done it with 9 characters to find which one I like the most and at this point the campaign is no longer fun, it’s just an annoying part that I have to push through.
