I can appreciate the need to find loot instead of crafting it, but I much preferred .81 where I actually got upgrades. Now I cant find the loot I want AND I cant craft it. I think this system still needs more tuning.
Hi, I also have the impression that I brick my higher Tier items a lot more. Yesterday Mike said the numbers are perfect the way they are so I am not sure if we can expect more balancing or maybe other runes to influence the crafting process.
Rare runes would be a huge benefit, perhaps something like a better version of the guardian rune. Would facilitate trading as well for when multiplayer gets up and running.
My impression is getting two tier 5 is fairly easy. Got several such items. Getting three or even four t5 is hard. And that is supposed to so imo. Because such items 1) are not mandatory 2) it is just a stretch goal for those who wants to perfect their gear.
P.S. Modern players are so much spoiled by casuality of the recent aRPGs , almost to the extent of being whineyâŚ
If I can offer one piece of adviceâŚ
New chars, those in campaign or just started MoF runs - Aim for T14/T15 crafts max.
Attempt crafts ONLY off base items with a minium of around T8.
These are more than powerful enough for lvl 50-60 chars - sometimes even higher if all affixes are appropriate to your build.
Higher level chars:
Do not craft on anything less than T10 based items. Just dont.
Since the recent 0.8.2 update, I have increased my minimum starting level for crafts to T11 or T12. I regularly craft T18/T19/T20 drops because I start on a higher base tier. Plenty drop from Mof maps at lvl 70. I often find drops of T10 or more that could be crafted on successfully. They may not be purfect affix matches but still good enough⌠every so often I find a good affix match and these I can usually get to T18 at least.
Bonus - exalted drops make for the best crafting bases as they tend to have lower instability as well as higher base tier.
Hard certianly, no argument. I donât think itâs being whiney to state that perhaps it could still be tuned. It seems getting decent gear has become a lot easier while getting 15-20 with the affixes you want has become nearly impossible. Can you honestly say that finding an ultra rare piece with the affixes you want on it that is in a craftable position and then 9 out of 10 times breaking that to try and get an upgrade that you want is good gameplay? Surely there is a middle ground here.
yes. There should be. We just disagree on what exactly it is. That doesnât mean I 'm saying I"m right and you are wrong. I just mean that the current state of crafting in LE is ok with me. Yes finding a good t6-t7 item and then bricking it hurts but letâs be honest at least you got t6 + t4 +t3 item at worst in most cases before fructuring it. And that is still a decent piece of gear. The problem imo is that people want near perfect gear in couple of weeks of playing. The devs can never satisfy all. Some want it easy others want it harder and what is a middle ground for you might not be such for others.
I think crafting is in a really strange place now. With the removal rune change its now alot easier to get a decent T6/7 affix isolated and in lots of builds suffixes arent important on weapons so 6/4/1/1 is worlds apart from 5/5/5/5 and so much easier to make.

Unless youâre using a DoT spell, putting chill and slow on your weapon suffixes are good defensive suffixes.
With the actual state of crafting this is absolutely true.
To be clear Iâm not talking about finding a nice exalted piece and being upset I broke it. Iâm talking about the much rarer loot filter set to find specific affixes on items, finding an item with them and then breaking it⌠repeatedly. In .81 if i found these pieces there was a 50/50ish chance that i could push it from 12 to 15+ now that is much much lower and it should be looked at. Pushing a 3/4/0/0 to 15+ not ok, pushing a 3/5/3/1 to 15+ should be more doable than it is for the unicorn piece it is.
I just donât think any of it matters or is okay when I literally had 5 items in a row break at less than 10% on their first non-guaranteed attemptâand this was just on random level 40ish gear for my Lich. Itâs frustrating and unfun. Thereâs nothing the crafting system can offer me as far as âhighlightsâ that is worth how terrible this feels to interact with. Itâs basically, âWhat good are these loot filters, shards, runes, etc if you canât do anything with them?â
So if loot doesnât matter because crafting is terrible, and build diversity doesnât matter because respec is terrible⌠Whatâs left to entice someone to play?
How about not making LE into a full-time job like PoE?
