Crafting improvement suggestion

Not sure if it’s been suggested before, I’ve not trawled through the forums.

We currently accumulate large quantities of affix shards and use very few of them when crafting - 1 shard per tier upgrade.

One of the main complaints about crafting is the “fracture” issue and all it’s surrounding annoyances, addressed in multiple posts on the forum.

Why not use multiple shards per craft with each shard increasing chance of success by 1%.

So if I am on t4 and want t5 but the chance of success is 74%, I can use 26 shards and make it 100%. Or use 16 shards and make it 90%. Player choice of risk/cost.

This does not affect the actual RNG roll within the tier … you can still get a crap t5 roll.

And there is still risk of fracture …

Right now, items can be re-rolled within their tiers (all affixes in 1 re-roll) at their current risk using glyphs to reduce the risk of fracture.

So to balance out the crafting higher tier items easier remove the protection glyphs from re-rolls.

This will mean players can craft higher tier items with less risk - (ps making collecting shards “a meaningful choice”) and then run a greater risk by trying to perfect them with re-rolls but without the safety net of glyphs.

Everything about the crafting system and it’s mechanics would remain the same except the % chance of success would go up depending on number of shards and disabling glyphs when re-rolling.

I kinda like the idea but I’m not sure. You’d be unlikely to be able to afford to be able to do this with the rare shards which would push you to rush the rarest affixes you want up to t5 first using glyphs, then use this method on the more common affixes sing you’ve got lots of them.

So I’m not sure. It would change crafting behaviour and make it easier to get the max tier gear (which is probably bad) and provide a sink for the common affix shards (probably good) as well as a demand for them when we have multiplayer and trading (probably good).

While i like the option for additional ressource costs to increase your odds. I don’t like the OP suggestion to be able to make a craft 100%

I already did state that in an similar thread, as soon as there is ANY option for guaranteed results, the game somewhat feels more “grindy” and the actual excitment when succeeding is dampened.

Something similar, i would be interested in though. Maybe just adding the option to use 2 affix shards at once for an (slightly) increased chance. This could be combined with any glpyhs.

I also think that there probably will be more glyphs implemented in the future, so having another option to increase your odds slightly is also nice in combination with possible future glyphs added to the game.

Would be cool to use this system to get at least rid of a damaging fracture.

Not getting the desired result is one thing. Damaging the item and make it useless is another.

The higher the risk, the higher the reward. Fracturing in a nut shell.
