Crafting exalted items

In a similar vein to my affix thread I want to repost some minor suggestions regarding the forge:

  1. Forging potential cost ranges are too big for my taste.
  2. Rune of Removal should not cost any potential.

The latter is kinda easy, you roll the dice already to remove a certain affix or at least not your t7 affix - it’s pointless if you win on that but lose the item anyway for 15 potential have somehow vanished. You’re often not even able to craft a new t5 affix in the freed slot.

Balancing the general cost is a much harder act. Having 1 as a minimum cost with the added chance of not losing anything can feel great but narrowing down the ranges would require both a higher minimum and a lower maximum cost, otherwise it’d be simply power creep. From my experience the negative outcomes are more memorable (I believe that’s a common psychological perception), so I’d by okay with that.

How do you feel about that?

And do we know if the odds are equal or weighted for the values within such a range?

I have had multiple instances where I had a great exalted base + T6 affix and 40 FP with an empty slot, but the 40 FP vanishes like air before I can get the empty affix to T5. I admit, I’m just happy that if you accidentally remove the rare affix you wanted with Rune of Removal, you get the affix as shards (there was a time that wasn’t the case, so Rune of Removal caused nightmares).

I would much prefer a lower FP range (I think it’s up to 24 now, I’d like for it to be 15-18 at most), but at a cost of having “targeted increases” like Glyph of Order preserving a perfect tier roll having a higher minimum FP. It makes sense from a flavor perspective to have more “intensive” crafts require more FP, especially if you want to seal affixes and give exalteds more stats.

It sucks bricking an item, but with the MG and CoF levels high enough, majority of affixes are not that difficult to get again.

There needs to be RNG otherwise, slowly but surely, the player base will complain about certain parts having too much RNG or bricking their favorite item–and what will happen is our items will become guide craftable. Put in X, put in Y, add Z and BAM = Legendary Staff.

The way EHG has it currently gives me the satisfaction that I love. At times, I slam it all together and make something I’m truly amazed at and other times, I click forge 2x and it’s bricked at 0 forging potential. haha

I stick to the opinion that we need additional ways to craft – and I believe EHG mentioned in 1.1 there will be a new crafting rune or glyph. Super excited!

I have almost never used the Rune of Removal, as 1-in-4 is just too risky on an item that’s already pretty good. I’d take a set forging cost to be able to select the affix I want to remove. I would also like to be able to buy (or find) blank rare/exalted items to create from scratch; maybe a Rune of Purging?

The rune of removal is very important depending on the situation. A double exalted item with a unwanted T5 has only this option available to solve it, potentially making it into a fantastic item.

Also for rare class-specific affixes the rune of removal causes you to get all available shards without fail, making it superior to shattering something to acquire needed shards of some kind.

That’s a white normal item. Get a base and you have exactly that. A item becomes magic/rare/exalted by having the respective affix tiers.

A ‘blank’ exalted item on the other hand would be a drop only having the exalted affix on it, that would be interesting to see, given enough FP are provided.

Also a - very - rare rune to purge all non-exalted mods from an item and actually gaining a bit of FP for it would be interesting.

It’s not that rare, I’ve had a few drop like that.

I don’t know about that. How rare? Like the duplication rune? That could work, but otherwise the power-creep could be too much. But this has given me another idea. I know that I have triple exalted items, but finding them in the stash is quite hard.

So how about applying loot filter rules to the stash search function? Maybe we could add a dropdown menu to the search bar where we select one of our rules and that would highlight items matching that rule.
