No idea why it took me so long to figure this out.
Now that Dread Shade is permanent, you can cast it on your toughest minion AND then remove it from the active skills panel and Dread Shade still keeps going!
This means you can replace DS with a 0 skill Harvest! This means I can now at last give all my minion frenzy and 24% damage increase and freeze near by enemies with a melee skill and still not lose any of my actually useful skills.
I hope this does not get debugged in the next season, its not sling shooting but it is similar… I don’t know why I can only find stuff like this at the end of seasons…
This is definitely not intended and hopefully gets fixed. Any persistent skill should not continue to have effects when removing it from the action bar.
hey… don’t poop on my parade… This is an amazing way to play a zoo build! (though you are probably right…) There really should be a way to launch a melee attack without a skill though. I mean why can’t a mage choose to fist punch something?
This is likely an unintended mechanic resulting from snapshotting. It will, most likely, not work anymore in Season 3 with the removal of snapshotting.
Zoo builds will get buffs then as well, so hopefully we won’t need to do these shenanigans anymore.
There is. You can assign direct attack in your skill bar. If you want, you can even not assign any skill and assign all 5 to direct attack.
What shouldn’t happen is that you remove skills from your skill bar and they keep working (unless they’re being procced by something else).
If you can place it in the skill bar, everything is coded as a skill. There’s no way around that. A punch is also a skill. I don’t think there’s any ARPG out there that treats this differently.
off topic, I actually kinda enjoyed that poe2 let you put supports on “Basic attack”
A basic attack focused build is fun. Some non diablo style action games let you do that, and its nice to just mega juice your no cooldown beat them up button.
Those are replaced generally in arpgs with stuff like rive, or heavy strike in poe1.
poe2s only problem was default attacks is legit better then some skills for the majority of the game LOL
