Some +skill affixes have element specific damage bonuses that render the affix much less valuable for builds that work with conversions of the main skill damage.
For instance the +skill affix for mana strike gives increased lightning damage, so you do not get a benefit from that part of the affix if you use Yruns penance or Frigid Grasp.
It should be made to that active conversions for a skill also convert the secondary bonus for a +skill affix. So for mana strike, you would convert +lightning to +cold damage. If you had a flame reave +skill affix, which gives +fire damage and you had the conversion active, you would convert it 50/50 like the flame reave conversion skill does.
If youâre taking +skills, itâs most likely that itâs your primary skill. So it will be buffing your primary element. Any buffing of secondary stuff like getting poison from a unique would be meaningless.
Also, these secondary affixes tend to be lower value than a pure affix. Itâs just a âside bonusâ from taking the +skill.
I donât see much issue with that, personally.
If not changing to general damage, then changing it to something else entirely.
My point was that it was much simpler to implement an affix change than to go around changing how conversion works globally.
Lightning blast gives generic +spell damage, so it would not apply to that. If you had something that converted lightning blast from a spell to a melee then it would be the same case.
One other example is abyssal echoes the +skill affix gives void damage, but abyssal echoes has a conversion to fire.
