Something that i notice is the way Convenience is done with this skill. Originally this skill is made for stand still and only affect a cone, but it allows you to change it to a circle and allow movement, but at the cost to increase a lot the mana cost on a already mana intensive skill. But with sentinel’s warpath the convenience is done in a more accessible and , in my option, balanced way, you can remove the cost from the skill by the cost of 3 skill points + -30% elemental resistance. I believe that you guys should change the price of making it move and do in a circle, or give a option to allow to reduce the mana cost by a good amount but also reduce the resistances or change the mana cost of moving to reduce all resistances while channeling. Base Ghostflame isn’t fun while Ghostflame moving circle is really fun and a change of pace from the warpath builds for us (braindead) players.
I think the main difference between the 2 is that Warpath’s reduction doesn’t change how warpath works. Warpath is always about spin to win.
Whereas the Ghostflame one does change the skill in a very powerful way. So it requires a higher cost.
I’m not saying I disagree with you or not (I haven’t played Ghostflame, so I don’t have an opinion on it) but there are successful builds that use moving Ghostflame, so I’m guessing that there are solutions for the cost increase.
Ghostflame isn’t that mana hungry when you build properly for it. With Telf’un’s Mirage you can utilize the ability to reach dodge cap as a way to get your mana back by not avoiding hits. For example, on what would normally be deadly archer stacks you Ghostflame straight into their line of fire. Lich is particularly good at being able to sustain Ghostflame due to Int stacking combined with the Int->Mana scaler in the early portion of the Warlock tree. Physical conversion of Ghostflame into the Marrow Shards crit build also provides mana return via Marrow Orb procs, which can provide multiple mana returns via Warlock tree threshold node and Marrow Orbs from a single piercing Marrow Shard.
Ghostflame is a poor bosser, but an excellent league starting mapper. It doesn’t really require anything and does a high amount of base damage with good scaling. Usually the first items you try to fish for are a decent +skill roll of Spine and a Telf’un’s Mirage. Acolyte WW Relic is also good. For Idols you sacrifice a bit of health by getting the mana efficiency with Ghostflame prefixes (which compete with %health), but Death Seal squashes all incoming damage so you’re still fine.
