I like playing with a controller. The controller support for this game is much better than most ARPGs, but could use a little updating / fixing of some central issues. Here’s my take.

UI Tutorial.
As far as I can tell, there is no tutorial for how to navigate the UI with a controller outside of a few scant button prompts here and there. I’ve had to figure out how most of the navigation works, and some of it is still unclear. I’ll elaborate on more specific points. -
Navigating between panes.
Sometimes, the user can press LT to switch between the left and right panes while the inventory is open. This works in the shop and stash, but notably does not work in the crafting tab, despite a button prompt (LT) being shown on the inventory tab to do so. The only way to use the crafting tab currently is to manually drag the item using the right stick, which is slow and clumsy - a repeating problem, as further points will illustrate. -
“Controller Pointer Velocity” option has no effect.
The pointer velocity option in the input keys menu has no apparent effect on the speed of the cursor when using a controller. The slider does nothing, and manually typing in a value in the number field also does nothing. Additionally, the slider does not change the number field and vice versa, so whatever variable those are referencing is clearly broken. -
Navigating the crafting menu.
While the shards pane is open, the expected behavior for the controller navigation is to navigate that pane. However, buttons navigate the inventory pane instead, even though it is darkened and in the background. Currently, the only way to navigate that pane is by using the right stick cursor and manually pulling the scroll bar up and down; navigating such a massive list (when you have very many shards, as I do) feels clumsy and slow since the user can’t navigate the shards pane with the D-pad or either stick. -
Inconsistent navigation with sticks and D-pad.
Sometimes, the left stick navigates menu options, and sometimes the D-pad navigates, and sometimes both. There is no apparent consistency between which method navigates which menu, and some menus aren’t navigated by either, such as . . . -
Escape menu / settings menu navigation.
Currently, these menus can only be navigated with a cursor, which as stated previously is clumsy and slow. It would be nice to be able to navigate these with the D-pad / left stick.
Thanks for reading. I’m hoping controller support will continue to improve.
