I have been having issues when using Linux + Proton (Experimental or GE-Proton8-32) where I can start the game just fine and get to character select, but when I press “Enter Game” the connection dialog starts up and then a gong sound happens and the connecting dialog goes away and maybe 30 seconds later I get a “Connection Lost” dialog.
This happens maybe 95% of the time. Sometimes I am able to get past this and it will log me into town, but when I try and zone into a new area, the load screen just runs indefinitely.
This does not happen when I just use the Native Linux binary without Proton. I am able to log in just fine and play the game, which is great, except this mode does not support 5120x1440 resolution for some reason. It is stuck with a max resolution of 3440x1440 and it stretches so it looks not so great. If I set %command% -force-vulkan
when using the Native Linux binary it gets rid of the stretching, but the menu buttons are all shifted out of place and there are some graphics glitches.
I’d love to figure out why Linux + Proton has so many issues on my setup. It used to work super well last summer until something changed and I encountered this issue before. I actually opened a support ticket 22545 that really didn’t get very far because support was treating this as an ISP issue when I really think it is a deeper problem when using Linux + Proton.
To be honest I would be totally fine using the Native Linux binary if I could get 5120x1440 resolution working, so if anyone has any thoughts on fixing that issue that would be great to hear.
