Collecting Gold Pet

Would be nice to have a pet to collect Gold on the ground like we had in D3
Like the Juvelile Skullen you have on the BackPack would be cool

Careful, some here are going to accuse you of wanting to turn the game into a ā€œTaking your pet for a walkā€ simulator…

Mike has been asked during last Friday Devs Stream.
They don’t plan to do it. But it’s not off the table.

Personally, I’d rather have the pet pick up shards, but I know that’s not going to happen :joy:

So far I haven’t found the need for one, tbh. Maybe it’s because I haven’t yet reached full endgame (meaning high corruption and T4 dungeons), but I have more than enough gold just from what I autopick up without having to detour. Maybe with more content we’ll have more things to do with gold, but it doesn’t feel like a priority to me for now.

A few dozen stash tabs and a few runs to Lightless Arbor will cure you of ever thinking you have enough gold.

And here’s said dev stream where Mike was asked, ā€œWill the purchasable/equippable pets in-game ever be able to go around and pick up gold for you?ā€ and his answer below:

Yeah, I only have about 20-30 tabs for now (which is already amazing when you consider other ARPGs) and I know the price will keep going up.
I also know that Arbor dungeon was created as a gold sink, so you can always use more gold. However, I’m not sure a pet picking up gold would help that much. You already autopick up most of the gold, plus gold shrines/echoes would make the leftover gold on your normal runs kinda negligible. If feels that way, at least, but as has been pointed out, I still have to experience the full endgame :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not advocating one way or another because I’m fine either way but it would 100% help. I leave a LOT of gold on the ground behind me as I farm monolith (arenas are a little different as it’s a small area) because I don’t always take the time to circle back to get it.

So, on the one hand, I know LE devs are very, very committed to not automating things and encouraging the player to ā€˜interact.’ Meaning, it’s my ā€œfaultā€ for not going back and picking it up. Having a pet would slightly discourage this more interactive environment paradigm the devs really want to have.

Well, if you were to implement a pet like in D3, it had a radius. Slightly smaller than the screen. So if you do quick runs, especially drop and run builds where you drop a totem/summon/whatever and move on while it kills the mobs offscreen, the pet still wouldn’t pick it up because you would be away from it radius by the time the mob dies.
If you do nova damage, though, it might pick up more while it’s in range. So yeah, it would always help and if you’re always needing gold it would never hurt.

In the end, though, it would be easier to just increase the pickup radius rather than coding a pet for that purpose. You’d achieve the same purpose in a much simpler way. Maybe add pickup radius affixes so you have to make a choice? If you have to drop some more useful affixes for a larger radius, that would offset the ā€œloss of interactionā€.
