I’ve been able to squeeze in about 2k freeze chance multiplier. This is then multiplied by around 200% more freeze chance at full chill stacks(blessing) and 330% chance to freeze from 15 frostbite + exposed flesh.
The freeze rates I’ll be working with will be:
Flay - 360
Bone Curse - 100
Marrow Shards - 50
The freeze formula works those out to be:
( Base freeze rate * (1 + freeze rate multiplier) * (1 + freeze rate per stack of chill) / Monster HP) * chance to be frozen.
Don’t forget the freeze rate per stack of chill affix that can go on your helm & chest. Have I missed som +max skellues, I thought you can only get 6 as a Lich for a total freeze rate of 320 for Flay.
Its should be 7. 6+1 for putting 23 points in necro. I tested on a necro because I don’t have a lich and forgot about the mastery bonus. I’ll change it to 360.
My calc are off regardless though. I didn’t realize your need to apply freeze chance after (base freeze chance * freeze multi * freeze chance per chill stack / monster hp). I was also missing some some +1s.
This kind of leaves me at the same place though as I don’t know how much monster hp I should be building for. I think I read Aberroth is like 10 million. If that’s the case it may be pointless. I’ll try 1 million for the calcs maybe that is enough for trash mobs.
After recalculating the numbers aren’t looking good. Even end game bosses had only a couple million hp I probably wouldn’t be seeing freezes until they are at like 5% hp. It will probably be better overall to just go for pure hit damage.
Convert this into a frostbite build and use the snowdrift boots for giga penetration frostbites. Swap into cold chaos bolt triggers which trigger cold harvest. Decay aura converted to frostbite. Bone curse with freeze maxxing.
I think there is a lot of potential to do frostbite builds with flay using the spell route or even the echo version with a lot of attack speed. I finally wound up settling on doing a full cold crit build that procs a bunch of spells. Ive done ailments and non crit builds to death, but I’ve never actually played with critical hit so I thouht this would be a nice change of pace.
After massaging the numbers a few more times this is what I settled on:
I didn’t realize reaper form was so juiced so I had to add that in. I swapped out the mournfrost boots for foot of the mountain. I lost about 70 flat melee + spell damage and gained around 70% more damage in blessing and idols replacements. Foot of the mountain also solves my mana and endurance issues. -6 mana cost lets flay be cast with just mana regen from the tree and I no longer need perfect gear for my endurance to work on health and ward at low life (boots net almost 2k endurance threshold themselves).
I think you will need to use Doom Whisperer (removes the dash) on flay to use Foot of the mountain effectively since the stacks fall off when you move.
