Hey there. I’ve been enjoying CoF with some friends of mine so far, but we felt like a huge improvement could easily be made to the way that gifting works.
Currently, the system does not distinguish between different tiers of exalted items or different amounts of LP. Dropping a single obsidian essence takes a lot of time and thats good because you can trade a potential 4LP item with it!..
However, this makes it impossible for us to justify trading more available items with it, because you wouldnt wanna waste this really rare drop to trade a single lowlevel 1 or 2LP item to your friend who might need it on his new character, unless its incredibly rare. This is what makes interacting with the current iteration of the resonance system very frustrating for us.
To remove this issue, we thought up and propose a different system:
Items will require a certain amount of resonance depending on their value/rarity. The amount is based on a combination of an items rarity (or level range) and its LP and would be escalatingly greater for very high value items.
IE: A 4LP Wraithlords Harbour would be much more costly to gift compared to a 1LP Kestrel.
A 4 LP Kestrel would still be cheaper than a 4LP wraithlords harbour, as it is a much lower level and therefore much more common unique, but much more expensive than its own (Kestrel) 1LP version.
Obtaining resonance will work exactly the way that it does right now, by dropping (different tiers) of resonance orbs while you’re playing with your friends. However, instead of them being individual single use items, they will count towards a pool of resonance which is then used to pay for the gifts.
As a side effect, this would allow you and your friend to see the progress towards an amount of resonance, a goal, to be able to transfer the item.
The same system could be used for exalted item gifting aswell, with each individual tier above 5 counting for a higher cost.
IE: 1x T6 would be 1,
1x T7 or 2x T6 is 2,
1x T7 + 1x T6 is 3 etc.
This could also count rare class specific mods as a higher value, as those are much rarer to find as exalted affixes.
Obviously the current aquisition rate of resonance would need to be adjusted for this to work, and perhaps some “critical rolls” for resonance drops, which would cause an obsidian or other resonance to drop instead, worth several golden ones to add some spice to the sysmte.
What are your thoughts on a change like that? Would it make gifting items less frustrating to you, since you could trade medium rarity LP items more freely? Or do you think that a system like that could feel too much like work?
