Clotho's Needle is Too Strong

Clotho’s needle is too strong. With 180 melee damage, 8% base crit chance, and 1.1 attack speed, it’s already incredible, but it drops with weavers will every time, allowing it to become an absolute monster with a tiny bit of RNG luck.

In comparison, Leviathan Carver boasts up to 210 melee damage with 0.76 attack speed and some additive damage and a small amount of penetration. It has ~ 1/10 lp1, 1/390 lp2, and 1/75060 lp3. This is nowhere close to 8% base crit and a whopping .34 more attack speed, with added strength, dex, and crit multi from what is a very negligible distance, all while coming with a guaranteed weaver’s will on every drop. Clotho’s is also a very common drop, making it insanely farmable compared to what can be considered one of the hardest hitting weapons in the game.

Just the fact that it has 8% base crit and can get more base crit makes it extremely powerful, when it’s also given 180 melee damage and a built-in crit multiplier it’s jaw-dropping, when it’s as common as it is, it’s wild, then when it always comes with weaver’s will? Yeesh!

When an item like this exists, it diminishes gear choice to the point of leaving previously jaw-dropping loot on the ground because it’s not (insert Clotho’s Needle here)

This is somewhat true for other items, like Mantle of the Pale Ox, but that doesn’t always come with weaver’s will, lol

Powercreep can be fun, but not when it completely leaves an entire set of items behind

Not yet. I’m a slow player playing CoF, so that’s still a little ways off. I don’t see anything replacing a 20% base crit clotho’s before I do, though.

Its not just Clotho’s, Scissor of Atropos is also insane with its +2 level of melee skills, attack speed and base 77 adaptive damage on top of some vitality.

Inheritance of the Erased is also crazy busted for solo minion builds. Its baseline DoT mitigation, health and void resist is great for player stats and gets applied at 200% to your minion. But the main thing is additional affixes, you can get frailty on it so your minions apply it on the enemy and get a free 15% DR, get Crit multi on it and it outperforms Death rattle without the 30% more minion damage taken penalty, its another way to get minion crit chance if your minion isn’t capped, you can get a large amount of % increased damage for DoT minions too particularly eleDoT and even ignite chance.

I’m convinced this amulet being limited to a single minion is a major FUCK YOU from EHG to minion army builds as they need the survivability from the amulet (less DoT, health, void res) wayyy more than solo minion builds and are currently mostly underpowered compared to them anyways.

The problem is these items are linked to the shittiest RNG mechanic in the game: Weaver’s Will. 99% of the time you hit garbage and you might as well use a cheatengine to get perfect affixes you want.

I am running my Weaver tree with lucky Weaver’s Will, increased Tomb chance(Scissor+Clothos), increased Cemetery chance(Inheritance of Erased) and spamming Lostwood Folly’s at high corruption. Doing a mix of Tombs and Lostwood Folly’s seems to be best and you get decent idols and proc Rune prophecies at the same time.

I’m guessing you never used Plague Dragon’s Tongue. 212 melee damage, 7% base crit chance, 0.94 attack speed but up to 47% increased melee attack speed baseline, and you can slam whatever you want on it, no need for RNG. Much easier to get too.

But yeah, compared to other Two-Handed Swords, Clotho’s is way above the rest.

I don’t know how well versed you are in builds in general, but practically nobody uses Leviathan Carver, because it’s very bad. It gets outperformed by an exalted sword in basically every build, so this wasn’t a great comparison to make.

This has unfortunately been a theme with EHG. Many of their high level unique items are often lacking in terms of attributes, and some are even tailored to be used by a very few specific builds (hi Eternal Eclipse), so every time they make a unique with “the right attributes”, it instantly becomes an exceptional item.

I actually kind of hate how so many interesting looking items are so “niche” and like you said, lacking in attributes so much that it’s not even worth it to try for those builds.m, which is partly caused by the build imbalance we are seeing now.
