Chat Filter: Thank You

The new, less restrictive filter, is much nicer than the previous version.

Thank you.

Nevermind.

You made it more strict for some reason, and removed the message letting you know why your message didn’t get sent.

No one likes undocumented changes, guys…

Do you really use the chat?

The few times I’ve left it on it’s a cesspit of political ideology nonsense or people comparing the "measurements’ of their gaming abilities. You have to wade through a crap ton of that stuff to find any sort of LE discussion and most of that is just, "is this 18 Rare as good as this 23 Exatled?

I leave it on when I first log in to EoT but once I start playing, it gets deactivated. The only time I respond is if someone asks an actual question when I first log in. I send an answer, though usually there are two other answers basically saying the same thing at the same time.

I’m not trying to say people can’t use it or that it shouldn’t be there, just genuinely do not see it’s usefulness. Maybe with channels like #LFG, #Gearing or #offtopic because right now it’s really tedious sorting through the non-gaming crap.

Once the deactivation sticks and that bug is fixed, chat will be off for good.

Ditto.

After many years of playing with games that have in-built chat functionality, I have given up and now use third party solutions if I need/want to correspond/communicate with other players in a game. My reasons are fairly simple:

  • In-game chat is usually substandard compared to a properly developed “chat is our core business” application. This can be anything from bugs to moderation to functionality.

  • In-game chats unfortunately suffer from the a$$$hole factor - even if you can restrict your chat to smaller channels, given enough time it always deteriorates into a delightfully smelly soup of religious, political, sexual or derogatory comments that have f-all to do with the game. And then the game devs have to step in (a task that is usually outside their area of expertise so they do it badly) and draconian methods are used to keep chats pleasant for all but end up censoring adult interaction.

  • When I play, I dont have time to type messages in chat. I am slaying monsters FFS! At most I wanna shout via my mic at a buddy I am playing with. Typing in chat while playing phhhfff… IRC anyone?

So. yeah… no in-game chat for me either.
