I’m currently using dualboot on my pc, frequently switching between linux and windows (work and personal agenda).
I’d very much like to continue playing on my character indefinetly of OS, but, for some reason, I can’t see characters created on windows, when playing from linux.
Is that how it supposed to work?
Are linux servers separate?
Update: I’ve checked again, just a few minutes ago, and I can see all of my characters both on windows and linux.
But! I’ve found a funny bug. If I use custom compatibility tool (Proton) from linux version steam, I can’t see any characters at all.
There’s something super strange about characters sync. Yesterday I was playing from Windows, made a few adjustments to my character (Mage, nickname is ‘Mage’, lol).
I.e. I’ve changed skills:
There was Elemental Nova on R and Shatter Strike on RMB;
I’ve despecialized Disintegrate and specialized Shatter Strike instead.
All of that done on Windows.
I’ve logged in from Linux and there was an older copy of my character, before the adjustments (Shatter Strike on R, Disintegrate on RMB);
After that, when I’ve logged in from Windows again - my character was wiped to an older version. It looks like outdated version from Linux client overwrited newer version from Windows.
Hey… I deleted my previous post cause it seemed you had solved your own problem… obviously not…
So the suggestion I was going to make is that I have no idea if the LInux version and windows versions are interoperable… logically they should be… however, these files are all local to your system so its likely that they are not being updated via Steam and then downloaded to the alternative OS correctly… I hate using Steam cloud saves - they have always caused problems for me even just using Windows… not even going to mention how slow they are to update for bigger savegame files…
If you have access to the linux partition on windows & vice versa, a suggestion could be to copy your saves manually from the one to the other before you reboot… Obviously make a backup before testing this… Alternatively, you could copy the files to a USB stick or something… This definitely works for copying between windows systems (i.e. home & work machines etc,)
Nothing is online now other than the login & chat… When multiplayer goes live… you will have online characters stored with LE and offline characters only on your local machine… For now, everything is local - and just copied by Steam Cloud Save (if you enable it).
