Had to reinstall Steam due to a bad hard drive (my main drive with the operating system). I got everything fixed and reinstalled. When I went to play LE again my characters were gone! The hard drive that had all my game files and save games were never damaged.
The characters are saved in your registry.
So Iāve played for over 54 hours and now Iāve lost everything?!?!? Why in the hell isnāt characters saved in the cloud/steam server or something??
I donāt know, and IMO, itās an abomination that they save to the registry at allā¦

Sorry about this! Weāre aware of the issues with the current system and plan to improve it soon. In addition, all multiplayer characters will definitely be stored server-side once that is released.
Well could you please recompense in some way? I had over 20,000 gold, I had 2 items of each 2 different matched sets, two unique two handed hammers, a unique one handed sword, about 12 other unique items. I donāt care about the idols, the āgold coloredā items nor the blue ones.
OHH not to mention 2 characters, 1 and level 34 Sentinal forge smith and a level 23 Spell caster.
AND approximately 75 to 8o runes.
Obviously you donāt give a shit DO YOU!! Saved game files kept in the registry WAS YOUR DUMBASS IDEA!!
I assure you that we do care - unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to help in this case.
The current location of save data is using the game engineās default settings. We do want to either add support for Steam Cloud integration or develop an equivalent solution which would also help people using our standalone client to improve the resiliency of locally stored save data; unfortunately thatās just work we havenāt gotten around to doing just yet.
As this discussion is turning hostile, there is nothing we can do to assist you with this, and the question of whether this is a bug has been answered I am going to close the thread.
