So can I name my character any (appropriate) name and people will see my Steam ID?

I think so, yes. My name others see is GeeCrumb (Account name basically) but my characters are named different. In global chat people always reference me with “gee” so I guess “GeeCrumb” is what they see

Thats right. You only see the Steam ID. That’s why I always name my characters according to the playstyle like “ColdMinions” or “PalaStrike” so that I always know what’s behind each one, since you can’t change subclasses.
