Character deleted after PC crash

A few minutes ago i had a pc crash and after i restarted my pc, my char that was logged in is deleted now. also my lootfilters got deleted.

any chance on restoring my data?

update: my stash is also wiped back to an unknown patch …

Hey… Welcome to the forums…

All the files that store the savegames and stash information are stored locally on your machine and (if you use it) backed up by the Steam Cloud service… There are no files stored online by EHG…

If a crash happens and the game was trying to save something, it could have corrupted the files. There is no way to restore the data when this happens…

the files are in C:\Users[username]\AppData\LocalLow\Eleventh Hour Games\Last Epoch\ on windows…

Sometimes, if you catch it quick enough, you can replace the savegame files with the _temp versions in the same folder but this depends on if the _temp file has been messed up too…

Safest way to deal with this is to manually backup your files before you play - that way the most you can lose is the last play session…

Sorry.

that makes no sense in any kind, sry. why should my accountwide stash also be completly wiped because of a pc crash. also my crafting mats and gold are reset to a save early 2020.

and why are my lootfilters also deleted?

i cant replace a savegame, thaT doesnt exist. the savegame of my char got completly wiped from the savegames it seems, theres no temp or anything.

for the future pls, if this game should be a success, store the savedate on the server, like every other good rpg does, because such a accountwipe on a released game will get u to hell like wolcen.

It makes perfect sense…

Everything is stored locally and subject to anything that can happen in a beta game like crashes or other abnormal interruptions like power failures etc…

Lootfilters, global stash and gold, individual saves/characters are all stored locally in various files that can get messed up…

When EHG release the Multiplayer features, this will allow for online play and online character stores - we will have offline saves and online saves which will be entirely separate… Until then there are ONLY the offline saves… This has been discussed on the forums since the beginning of the beta (and probably earlier)…

The other issue that you may not be aware of is related to Steam Cloud saves… if something goes wrong with Steam backing up files or steam backs up a corrupted file or removes a file because a character was removed then it will keep trying to overwrite things incorrectly and cause more problems…

the game is completly bugged right now, cant create a new lootfilter or choose any existing one. i cant even close the create lootfilter window, i am stuck to it. seems its a weird problem i triggered with my pc crash yesterday.

i also couldnt create a new char, with the name of my old one, coz it alrdy exist.

so what should i do now?

Have you tried getting steam to verify the game files?

If that doesn’t fix it, go to the folder in the link below, backup all your saves & loot filter files (which may potentially have been corrupted in the crash) then delete them & restart LE.
https://support.lastepoch.com/article/39-the-games-log-file

Player.log (41.4 KB)

here is the log file.

yes i tried to verify data through steam, didnt help.

Did you try the deleting the LE files and folders (after backup) and then starting LE… ?

If all the files are messed up then this is the best way to “reset” the whole game to a clean slate…

This just happened to me, even with Steam Sync on I still lost my 82 BM, entire stash, loot filter, everything.

I know it’s Beta, but still very disappointing.

Hmm… Sorry about that…

Its unusual to lose the filters and global stash AND the character at the same time as these are 3 separate files stored locally on your machine… I suppose its not impossible but this is very odd.

Are you sure that you didnt log in on your machine using a different account or something.

Assuming windows, Check : C:\Users[username]\AppData\LocalLow\Eleventh Hour Games\Last Epoch
And see… perhaps the files are still there and salvageable. (obviously replacing username with your login name)

Re Steam Cloud save… it is basically a dumb copy system - it doesnt know if what it is copying is messed up so its usually (imho at least) useless unless you play on different machines and its an easier way to sync across multiple systems… Personally I have had so many problems with Cloud Saves (and its so bloody slow) that I never use it anymore… I manually backup any games savegames - especially when I play beta early access ones… I would recommend you try similar to prevent this happening again.

Hi Vapourfire,

I only have 1 account, I was playing and mid echo I got a complete PC hardlock.

TLDR: I had to re-roll from scratch, and am backing up manually after each session now.
