Character Corrupted

Character is locked out when I go to select it and hit play. The game simply freezes when I go to select my 96 Acolyte and it freezes the game. Crashed while I was in a Monolith and now my character file seems to be corrupted. The game crashes, wont create a log, and just goes back to windows. I cannot play my character anymore now.

On Steam, using Cloud Saves.

Hi, Welcome to the forums…

It does sound like you have a corrupted savegame - this unfortunately can happen if the game crashed at a moment when it was trying to access the savegame.

There should be a player.log file in the C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Eleventh Hour Games\Last Epoch folder on your machine… This player.log file will contain the games debug information and 99% of the time it will have a debug message about corrupted saves if that is the actual cause…

Please post your player.log here so that I can have a look and see whats happening.

A few important notes:

  1. It does not need to be the savegame you are trying to access that is corrupted - it could be another one - the way LE reads saves, it can be ANY savegame that is corrupted not just the one you try opening.

  2. Crashes can also be caused by installation corruptions - it is important that whenever the game does something out of the ordinary, that you use Steams Verfiy Game files function to ensure that your install is ok…

  3. Steam Cloud saves - remember steam has no way of knowing that a file is corrupted and when the game crashes, steam itself may try and sync a file and actually cause a corruption itself… Whenever you are having savegame issues, its important to disable Steam Cloud so that you can be sure that its not trying to sync something or even trying to sync a corrutped save back to your machine each time you start it.

  4. There is an _temp version of all savegames in the saves folder and if you are lucky (and the corruption hasnt cycled the file) you can rename the _temp file to the primary save and see if that one will load.

  5. EHG has no copies of your files or anything so if a savegame is in fact corrupted, then there is nothing anyone can do if you dont have manual backups.

  6. Crashes can be caused by in-game settings - to ensure that you are not having these kinds of performance related instability issues, before opening a save or starting a new char, set your quality to very low, 1080p resolution, 60fps framerate limit (in game/no vsync)… If the same savegame loads without crashing at these settings, then it could be related and not neccessarily be a save corruption.
