I keep seeing people stop at chapter 7 to go to monoliths can anyone explain this to me?
I want to do the “skip” aswell but I cant seem to find the answer anywhere.
Could someone be kind enough to walk me through it? 
Usually by then you already have all your idol slots and passive points. Finishing the campaign will only give you +1 attributes.
So monoliths became a faster way to level and get to endgame sooner.
There are also people that will jump to monoliths around level 25ish, level in them faster until 60ish and then go back to the campaign to finish the idol/passive quests.

Going through the dungeons lets you skip ahead in the campaign. Lightless Arbor takes you from mid act 1 void area to mid act 2. From there Soulfire Bastion takes you from there to the snow area. If you instead continued along in act 2 you eventually get the side quest from the Oracle’s Abode to go get the Sapphire Tablet and that takes you to the Temporal Sanctum which takes you to act 9. They made these skips better this time because you can now get idol slots and passive points from the dungeons now.
But in order to do the dungeons, you need keys, and those only drop at endgame. If you’re leveling an alt this is easy enough. If it’s your first character though, if your build is strong enough you can go into the endgame as soon as you get to the end of time for your mastery. You level there until you get the relevant keys, then you do the skips, get your remaining idols and passives, and finish act 9 to get +1 all attributes.
You might not be stong enough right away when you get the mastery though, What I’ve been doing is I quested until I finished the act 1 passive/idol side quests, then I do Lightless Arbor, continue past Soulfire Bastion to get to temporal Sanctum, then I go do monolith leveling until I feel I’m strong enough to easily to Soulfire and Temporal Sanctum. That should be all your passive and idol quests accounted for.
