Change to Smite Node

Do you think it’s possible to make a change to Smite’s Sacrifice node?

This will be about mana recovery specifically for Sentinels with builds focused on throwing skills (% chance to cast Smite on hit).

The basics would be to reduce the points from 5 to 4 and increase the health consumed by a bit but you would recover mana.

Consider one of the options:

  • restore mana equal to a total percent of missing health per point
  • restore mana equal to a fixed percent of maximum mana per point
  • 4 point passive bonus will restore a flat or percent of mana on cast

A example could be something like…0.35% of maximum mana restored per point with 1.4% max.

I feel Smite could be a good candidate for mana recovery options for Sentinel, at least for ranged play.

But smite already has two different pathways of making it a mana recovery option:
The passive “Time and Faith”
And the Sentinel Helmet Prefix.

All of those have to be directly casted, so they don’t help at all.

So you want an automated way to help with mana management?

I am sorry to disappoint you, but EHG is actively working against that.
Both fo the ways I named previously worked for non direct casting and that got chagned, because it is not in the mind of the devs to have such things.

I personally think that such thigns are ok, if they are on uniques and have a noticeable downsides, that gives that way of mana management a huge flavour.

But a solution to basically trivialize mana and never think about it again is something that I personally don’t like and the devs seems to be on the same page with that.

I can see that after what they did to Volatile Reversal…

For having either Javelin or Hammer Throw as a main damage skill the mana cost is too high without always getting the cost reduction nodes + the ring affixes for mana reduction.

There’s not much choice and there’s not enough benefit since they’re required and neither skill are powerful enough to justify the high mana cost.

Since most throwers use the Smite on throw hit idols, which already takes up all the slots, giving Smite that extra benefit would justify the cost and investment.

But it can already give you a good amount of extra attack/cast speed. IMO, I dont think this is necessary other than to trivialise mana even more for a Sentinel.

If you’re using Smite (proc’d via idol) for dps then you’ll either be using a staff or wand which means it’s free or you’re using it as a utility for the attack speed, heals and cleanse in which case you’re probably not needing the extra few mana every few seconds. And if you’re spamming a throwing skill you should be using the ring cost reduction prefix to bring the cost down as much as possible.
