I just started playing this game and I am a casual player. I understand the idea behind the loot filter but I am a horder in loot games. Given that gold is minimal in early game, instead of “hide” for a loot filter, could we get a “convert” option where the loot is instead turned into gold (at sell value) instead of just hidden? I understand that this may not be an issue in end game but during the campaign it would be nice. As a horder I am constantly traveling back and forth from town to sell since I pick up everything (don’t want to lose out on gold!).
You lose out on gold by doing hauling trips. The margin to time ratio is better spent by killing more monsters and just collecting two digits gold piles. Don’t run back half a screen to pick up six gold coins. A single gold drop shrine is probably worth hours of hauling.
That is my advice, if you really want to optimize your income.
Technical perspective:
The loot filter is a client-side application without server interference, I would assume. Actually transforming items into gold/auto-shattering/etc. would create additional client-server communication to prevent exploits. I am not sure if it adds to a significant increase in client-server-communication and server-side calculation, which would affect the cost of hosting the live-service. It’s probably not that much, but still.
This is correct, all it does is hide/recolour what you see on your client.
