Cannot destroy Soul Repositories - The Last Imperial Quest

Hello All,
I am posting this as a bug because as far as I can tell there is a bug. If i’m wrong feel free to let me know and i’ll move it (If I can). I have searched for this issue and could not find one with the same issue in the forum. I found a few regarding this quest but all were a little different.

I ran into this issue a long time ago and just kept coming back to it. The quest giver for The Last Imperial Tells you to destroy the 3 Soul Repositories and “Once you have destroyed them, return to me”. I have completed every main quest i’ve gotten except for this one, and one other. Someone suggested that I create a video of the issue so here it is: Last Epoch - Issue with quest The Last Imperial - YouTube. If someone has any ideas of how to fix this please let me know. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled as a last resort before posting here. I have gotten to the point where I was working on monoliths and I came back to this quest. If there is anything else I can post to be help please let me know. If you need logs of some kind, please just let me know where to go get them. Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: Issue was related to using an older character created before version 0.82. When I used a newer character, I was able to complete the quest.

Hey… Welcome to the forums…

Some questions:

  1. Does this problem only happen on that one character? I.e. can you do the quest with another character?

  2. Is this an old character that you started before the recent 0.8.2 patches - i.e. you got the quest before the latest update?

  3. When you first approached the quest, did anything happen? Like a game crash or did you teleport out before completing it? Were you able to damage any of the Souls when you first got the quest? This question is mainly to see if the devs can try and replicate the problem by doing whatever you did originally…

  4. Unfortunately sometimes save games can get corrupted - especially if the game crashed while trying to save a char… It does happen and there is nothing that can be done if this is the case… The savegame files are saved with the current & _temp backup but obviously if you progress beyond the problem the game will overwrite the temp file so you cannot restore “an old savegame” unless you made manual backups…

Hello,
I will do my best to answer here:

  1. I have not tried it on another character (I mean I may have completed it on another character a long time ago as I had just come back to the game recently after I put it down for a while) but no I have not done it recently with another character.

  2. This is an old character that I had not used for a while and recently when I came back I picked up the old mage to be already leveled up.

  3. I don’t know if the game crashed, I think game has crashed on me 2 times total but not 100% sure. If the fact that it’s an character is the issue, will gladly use my recently created mage and just slowly transfer gear, etc as they level.

  4. Yep, I will just try to reproduce the issue with another character and see if it still happens, if it doesn’t than atleast I know what the issue was, and i’ll post here my results/findings.

Ok… Definitely test with another character… if it has no problem then it could just be that your specific mage might be corrupted - there have been some occasional reports of older savegames from older versions of the games having odd issues - just like old gear that players have from before the prefix/suffix changes patch that cannot be crafted on anymore or have messed up values…

If a new character still cannot complete the quest then this is a more serious problem that will need to be traced somehow…

Issue was related to using an older character created before version 0.82. When I used a newer character, I was able to complete the quest.

Thanks for confirming this… Obviously its not great for play right now with patches coming every few months, but things like this are to be expected with Beta / Early Access games where so much changes between patches.

I have found that the best way to prevent / mitigate things like this is to keep backups of savegames/stash and I try and make sure that I finish the campaign part of the game fully for any character within a one patch window… i.e. I try not to start a new character in one patch and continue through the campaign part in the next patch…

Obviously you dont really have to be this pedantic and some people have no problem with builds running campaigns across patches but I find its “safer” and yes, sometimes patches implement a new chapter in the campaign (like 0.8.3 is going to) so you have no choice but hope something doesnt bork your character…

We will investigate this.

Thanks for the report.
