The way I used to play D2, was that I held left click to move (which was also used to attack) and instead of clicking directly on enemies, I’d hold shift with my left pinky finger and I could attack in the general direction my char is facing. In this game, I know you can make left click your attack but holding shift does nothing when you’re moving. It does prevent you from moving if you’re holding it while standing still. At this time, as far as I’m aware, the only way to stop dead and attack is keeping left click as move only and having your attack on right click and alternating buttons. So left to move, right to stop and swing your weapon, left to move again; rinse and repeat. Same concept, clunckier design. I hope you guys understand what I’m talking about. I still instinctually hit shift when I realize it’s not doing anything.
There’s a way to do something similar with shift … If you look at your skill bar, the left-click function is shown as two sets of two feet side by side. When you click on the feet icons, you can change them from “move only” by default, to “move or attack” … This allows you to pick a targeted attack that will be activated if you are hovering over an enemy with left-click. This also enables the shift-key to stop you from moving, to use an attack instead … Effectively creating a “shift to stop moving” function … Although it also casts a targeted ability.
You can also select non-targeted abilities for this shift-key function, and it will cast those when you left-click + shift.
In conclusion though … I never use this shift-key function … I also didn’t play D2, but I’ve played other games that have a “stop moving” key … I prefer the system in LE, because just not clicking left-click is already serving the purpose you’re asking for… Holding left & right click at the same time also servers a purpose.
Sidenote, one thing I adore about LE is that if you hold multiple attack buttons at the same time, your character will automatically use them all as they come off cooldown. I have certain builds like Lightning werebear, and Voidmage (voidknight) that are built to have every attack button held down all at the same time. It’s very cool, because by holding down all buttons at once, you are using all attacks as fast as possible as they come off cooldown. THe game queues them all properly.
Strange. I was using Swipe on my Druid and I had Swipe on right click. When I found out I could put it on Left click, I did and it won’t let me stop when I toggle shift. It just runs to were I originally let go of the mouse. The only time Shift worked was if I tried to move while holding it, and then it wouldn’t let me. But in terms of stopping your char, it wouldn’t.
