For example, for mana strike, it basically has two subskills - spark charges, and Mana Arc.
In 0.8.3e patchnotes :
Mana Strike
-
The lightning ability from Mana Strike’s Mana Storm node has been named Mana Arc to help clarify that it is a subskill.
-
Mana Arc is now affected by nodes on Mana Strike’s skill tree.
But when it’s now affected by nodes on Mana Strike, I suspect that Mana arc doesn’t -
- Gain extra mana when mana arc hits the enemy (= Not affected by Arcanist’s Blade)
- Grant extra ward
And I think it does -
- Gain damage when out of mana
And It’s really unclear if it -
- Gains extra lightning damage based off maximum mana (Mana spark)
- Gains critical strike change based off maximum mana (Celestial precision)
- If Spark charge also benefits from the nodes in mana strike at all; even if it does, then does that mean mana arc didn’t benefit from mana strikes before? isn’t that’s unclear/inconsistent?
And even if not for the mana strike, for example -
- When Disintegrate has a chance to cast fire aura, is that instance of fire aura scaled by nodes in disintegrate, such as damage?
- When (Skill A) is cast by say, thing like “Glacier” with lot of “medium explosion deals a lot of damage”(due to things like chance to cast X from idol/unique items), will (Skill A) or (ailment afflicted by the medium explosion) benefit from glacier’s node?
- What if a skill that does not have innate ignite chance, ignites somehow and has leech property in its nodes? Will it leech?
They’re all unclear and inconsistent through the game, and it’s hard to figure out unless you kind of test it one by one.
My suggestion is -
- If possible, change node descriptions so that it’s clear that they’re affecting which : for example, if it’s benefiting mana strike only, you can specify it by saying “Melee damage” since mana strike is the only melee damage. This might be hard for subskills from a spell and it would need a differente term like “Only benefits damage from fireball itself” for example.
- Being more specific by saying something like “Mana Strike, Mana strike’s subskills, ailments inflicted by mana strike” would help player clarify. It does sound like wall of text.
- Alternatively, stating that “This only affects main hit of” or “This only affects main hit and subskill of” or “This only affects main hit and ailment inflicted by it” would be helpful.
