I would love to be able to ROLEPLAY in an “RPG”. Wouldn*t mind even paying for it if it ends up as a skin and not as a body-type. An Ezio-style skin to go pls! THX
Lots of threads about this already. Just search for gender lock. tldr; is that they want to add this, it will take time and resources, not a priority for now. It will come eventually.
The role is of a female Rogue, in this case.
You do realize that in ACTION RPGS, there’s not much roleplaying anywhere? The action and the loot management is what this genre is all about.
So until they’re able to set the action and the loot aspects of the game right, there’s absolutely no reason to be asking for a character sex model customization, which is absolutely irrelevant in an ARPG.
Ah that’s why MTX is selling so bad in these kind of games… oh wait. Some people roleplay for roleplays sake so give it the benefit of a doubt because some people like stuff that seems realy wierd to others.
If by so bad you mean that 1 in 100 players (at best) buy them, then yes.
I don’t I have arround 100-150 ppl in the multigaming clan I play with and everyone in there has MTX, I even I gobbeled something up along the way to ged rid of currency when a sale happened. So from my experience your numbers make no sense. When I look at the PoE hubs everything is glowing and sparkling and it looks like more people run some kind of mtx rather then not.
If you have a multigaming clan, you’re already in the minority. If you’re in a clan at all, you’re already in the minority. You’re part of a small group of people that are very devoted to games and don’t mind spending money on them.
This isn’t what most people do, though. Most people don’t even finish the campaign, let alone buy an MTX.
If this happens in the early days of a league, that is perception bias. You tend to pay more attention to the flashy thing going through your screen than the character dressed in hobo clothes.
If this happens later in the league, that is to be expected. People that buy MTX are more likely to play for longer, so non-MTX buyers will quit and over time your ratio in towns will shift towards MTX ones.
Fair enough. But I forgot to add the word “sex” there, which I already edited in.
What I meant is that character sex customization is irrelevant in ARPGs.
Yes and no. I had this topic some days ago with a friend and we counted the players with MTX vs players without ind the random hubs we joined and it was more like 50/50 not counting if there was someone with a full set of MTX or just footsteps and whatnot. 1/10 seems rather unrealistic to given there is neat looking mtx to buy.
This is very important to a lot of people for whatever reason. Not to me though but I’m able to understand that some people have a fantasy in their heads they need to have mirrored in a game to be happy.
Since I was 16 and overheared a couple about their love for smelly feet I simply stopped wondering what some people want and don’t want and just shrug and wish them the best.
In which game was this and in which part of the season?
In PoE1 or LE it’s natural. As I said, the players with MTX tend to stay longer.
In PoE2 it’s actually natural that most people have MTX, because they had to pay for a pack to access the game, so they had free points to spend anyway. But they didn’t buy the MTX. They bought the game. The MTX was given to them.
There have been multiple studies about this over the years. All of them reach the conclusion that the majority of people don’t buy MTX and wouldn’t even buy them if they were 0.01$ each.
On the other hand, a small minority of the people that buy MTX buys thousands of dollars worth each season, so they kinda balance.
Intresting I have to look those up . Start with this infos dude
.
TBH I want a game that looks good from the getgo and pay for new content. I think I haven’t spent a dime on LE MTX so far because everything is fugly. The new MTX for the weavers looks fine for starters ^^.
Well, I have said so in other threads that discussed similar issues at several different times, and since you’re a forum regular, I just assumed you’d have seen those at some point. My bad for assuming that.
Also, it’s been a while since I kept up with it and I don’t think I could find the sources now. Or I would have to dig a lot and I’m not feeling up to it these days.
So, what — if something gets mentioned a few times, then it’s considered done? Real change only happens when people persist.
Are you the kind of person who’s too scared to call someone on the phone? The kind who tells the barber “yeah, I love it!” even though the haircut looks terrible?
What I’m trying to say is: this topic is only going to get bigger as more people invest time into the game. And for EHG to say they “don’t have the time or resources” for it just tells me it won’t happen — unless it gets more attention.
How is it that they have the time and resources to give every skill a new sound and rework entire classes, but this is suddenly out of reach?
Not trying to attack you, just wanted to add a bit more to the discourse!
ARPGs are all about roleplay/power fantasys. How do you think people come up with ideas for builds?
My favorite build in PoE1 right now is Viper Strike of the Mamba with a bit of Ambush. You’re telling me that build has nothing to do with roleplaying?
What he means is that a single big thread that constantly gets upvoted and keeps being updated is more effective to bring attention to an issue than having several threads each month each with only a couple of upvotes.
No, they said they want it to happen. It’s just not as important as the things they’re adding for now, like a better endgame, better balance, etc.
Because class balance is a more important issue that affect the whole playerbase, rather than only a few people, So it has priority.
There is a long long list of stuff they want to add and even those get postponed, because there isn’t enough time for everything. Like the missing campaign chapters, which were planned for season 2 but were pushed back because other things have a higher priority.
It will happen, it just won’t happen now. Gendered classes means twice the models, which means twice the animations and voice acting.
And they haven’t even finished the renders for the current ones, especially for the unique chest armors.
Dancing strikes is a broken rogue skill, since the game released and is has not been yet mentioned or fixed by EHG.
But by delaying it and adding more skills and other stuff, won’t it just make it even harder/more time consuming by putting it off?
IT’s not the only one. Balance is a big task. It’s not finished, nor will it ever be. It’s an ongoing effort over the years.
Also, I distinctly remember Mike being asked about it on stream and him saying it’s not in a good place but him not knowing what the plans for it were, nor when they would come. So it’s not like it’s not been mentioned by EHG.
No, the effort is the exact same.
If you have to make 50 animations to match the current 50 (ficticious number), add the corresponding 50 to the other gender and then you add 10 skills and have to add 20 animations, you have added 70 animations and have a total of 120.
If you add 10 skills and add 10 animations, you now have 60 animations. When you add the new gender, you have to add 60 animations for a total of 120.
The effort is literally the same, one way or the other.
