It’s funny that some of us have been complaining about his for ages, and everytime theres any reason for more people to play more, or changes to stuff, the exact problem that’s been identified is brought up by more people. And every single time it happens a bunch of people decide that those complaining just want to suffer or whatever.
Gearing progression has been a problem in the game for ages, ehg are making steps to make it worse, because for more casual players its nice to see the shinys drop a bunch early on. D3 inspiration coming in hot. (Or they’re just not listening to feedback about it/don’t think its an actual thing thats happening, or drop rates are bugged, pick your poison)
My personal expierence in the 100-200 corruption tier is that a lot of the echoes are worthless. I’ll keep my point limited to drop rates since that’s the topic at hand, but I have a wider opinion about the echoes in general.
As it stands, I’m currently only wearing one rare, and it’s a good one. I made it that way. The rest of my gear is Exalted/Uniques, but the Exalteds are definitely sub optimal. There’s a lot of defensive stats I’m lacking, so I’m in need of constant farming. With this context, I enter into any given echo, and 50% of them have zero exalted drops. Maybe more than half, but I’m not paying that close attention. I actively try to avoid arenas because I think out of all of the arenas I’ve done since the 0.9 launch, I’ve only seen 2 exalteds drop. That said, even in the non-arena echoes, there’s a scarcity of rare monsters, which directly impacts the exalted drop rate. I see elite packs often enough, but they may as well be trash mobs since I’ve not noticed them possessing a greater drop chance. Churning through echoes like this makes them feel worthless.
I know the echo rewards are a great way to target Exalted <item-type>, but a large part of my enjoyment in these games is watching the monsters drop the loot, not receive a Quest Reward. Also, I get that my experience is limited in scope. I’m just one player, and I could easily be getting the short end of the RNG stick more often than not, but it was somewhat annoying to see someone rail against drop rates claiming them to be too generous, when my experience has been the exact opposite. Also, it should be said (again and again if necessary) that an abundance of exalted does not mean those good. Or even worth looking at. The vast majority of exalteds I’ve seen are absolute garbage, and that includes the oens that have rolled two T6’s. A T6 or T7 affix does not make an item good.
I don’t know, I have 2.5 mil, and 13 tabs filled with exalteds, 6 for idols, 4 for class or forged… and a few spare more, I have money for 6-7 new tabs right now and I don’t need them.
Just don’t hoard mindlessly, I don’t pick up half of the exalteds, usually if they have a weapon prefix / suffix I don’t care, like exalted chill or things like that, or a terrible weapon can’t bet fixed or used as legendary fodder, or chests with bad exalteds (usually most things not exalted health actually…), etc,. Also I only keep one copy of each set item, and 1-2 of each legendary, usually saving those with good rolls and/or MP.
I think it also again really important for me to say, that the point of my entire thread was to compare pre0.9 exalted drop rates with 0.9 exalted drop rates.
Directly comparing these 2 states fo the game I just have far less enjoyment in regards of loot.
I never really claimed that exalted drops “quality” are good or not. And this is an entire different can of worms that would require another discussion. (Loot Quantity and Quality are intrinsically linked, but need to be discussed and balanced very individually)
As already stated above I would agree that the quality of exalted items in general could be imrpoved, but I rather would like to see that more into the later parts of the game, when the difficulty ramps up and it feels like I earned that good loot.
But none of this changes my opinion about that exalted items start dropping too frequent, too early.
I agree with “Too Frequent, too early”. I think my issue is that I was, and can still, get more exalted drops from the level 90 echoes, than the 100-200 Corruption echoes, which is backwards, imo.
In regards to Quality vs Quantity, my hope is that introducing trade will help solve some of that.
The sooner ehg finally fix this design problem, the better, it’s the single thing that makes me lose interest in LE the quickest by a huge amount. Playing other arpgs where killing enemies is what rewards me just feels so incredibly better. And it’s so directly tied into gearing problems, because we don’t get a constant chance at good gear, we get a burst of chance at good gear everytime we finish echos with specific echo rewards. Echo rewards legitimately make the game worse right now.
Like Ive just realised that the best way to self impose challenges to make progression in LE feel better for me, is to limit crafting in some way, maybe not allowed to craft affixes on, only use discoverys and chaos. And to never pick up the echo rewards. That would do such a huge amount to smoothing out the progression, and making drops feel exciting, and enemies feel like something i’m meant to kill.
