I am still learning Aprg’s. I have trying to build a lightening build with a wolf companion. I think my defenses are suffering a bit.

If you don’t mind looking at a build guide, you can check this one:
Aaron updated it recently and there’s a video from a couple of months ago. You can use it as baseline to figure out what he did differently from your build.
If you don’t want to check a build guide, then ignore that link and wait for another player to give you more general hints.
Wolves base melee damage is physical, this does not change when you give them lightning tag from Stormcaller’s reprisal.
Lightning Wolves is a build that is reliant on a specific unique Howl of the West wind https://www.lastepochtools.com/db/items/UAwJgrAzKQ
That gives your wolves flat lightning damage based on your flat melee lightning damage which is then buffed by the large lightning damage multipliers in wolf skilltree.
In the planner you have shared, you do not have this helmet so the melee lightning damage on your weapons is not being given to your wolves and any minion melee damage is kept as physical.
If you do not have the helmet, you should play phys/cold wolves (search for a guide) till you get the helmet. Mainly ditch the lightning nodes and spec into Frozen fangs, Legendary bite and Savage hunters.
For defenses, Beastmasters typically go for Strength instead of vitality as it gives armor and health regen if you have the Natural Fortitude passive. Also Porcine constitution (Aspect of the Boar) is one of the strongest defensive nodes in the game really pretty must have on any beastmaster.
I did see that but he takes cold nodes but it’s a lightening build. I thought mixes elements is not good. So I’m confused on how he does it.
I haven’t really checked it, but in the video I’m sure he explains why. He usually goes through everything and why he makes the choices he does, often even offering alternatives.

I checked it… The only cold nodes he has in the entire build are:
and
Also, the damage your wolves get from Tundra Stalkers is not wasted, even though it’s cold damage. It only means it will not scale off specific minion lightning affixes, but will scale off any “minon melee damage” or “minion elemental damage” just fine… So if the goal is those leftmost nodes, it’s totally worth taking those cold nodes.
It’s not just extra damage. It also gives them chance to chill, which can be useful. It’s a great defensive tool and it’s not the only place where he can get it (also from warcry and passive tree).
I focused only on the damage part of the nodes because that seems to be what OP is confused about: dealing lightning damage but taking cold damage nodes.
But yeah, everything else those nodes give are good in general.
Yes thanks. It was confusing. I’ll look into that build. I also don’t have that helmet but I’ll get there. Thank you for the help all. Great community.
Should I be focusing on vitality or attunement?
Attunement. That’s what increases your wolves damage.
