It is not possible to defeat the Abonination (spelling) who is the first Monolith end boss. You can’t target the Beacons that protects him from being damaged.
What class/skill are you using?
I’m also running into similar issues, playing with a controller and having hitbox issues on certain bosses. The only workaround for me is to turn away to undo the autotarget, start the attack, and then move into the beacons.
Every skill, even basic attack wont work. Only the boss is targetable. The minions can find the target though, but not me.
