sorry this is a repost, i accidentally put the wrong tag
Hey guys, I made an account on the forums just to post this since I think it needs to be addressed. I have recently become a huge fan of ARPG’s with Diablo and PoE being my favourites so far. I heard so many good things about this game and thought I would give it a try and see if it lives up to the hype. It very much does live up to it. The graphics, ambiance, storytelling, combat, and progression are all I’ve wanted and more…
I played for a few days and didn’t have much of an issue at all until one day where my FPS just started dropping to around 20 consistently. I firstly thought it was something downloading or my graphics settings… nope. Was it maybe the resolution (I play on 2560x1440p) or vsync… still nope. I tried playing other games and but it only happens on Epoch. Nothing else. Anywhere.
I’ve looked around the internet for a while and found that I’m definitely not the only one with this issue. There have been no solutions anywhere other than “suck it up” or some clickbait videos to get internet clout.
I’ve tried tanking through the drops for a few hours now and I simply cannot for much longer, it consistently gets worse and worse the longer you play. I don’t want to restart my game every 30 minutes because the frames drops become unplayable, but I am forced to because it both makes it extremely difficult to react to attacks and completely ruins my immersion.
I understand that this is most likely quite a difficult issue to fix but I think that me and a lot of other players would gain a lot of clarity if the issue is at the very least addressed by the devs as something they are working to fix. But until that time comes, I don’t think I can play this game anymore,
It’s a shame that such a intricately crafted game has to be ruined for some people (quite a lot actually) by technical issues such as these. If there is any fix whatsoever I would love to know but I highly doubt it seeing everything I have up to now.
I’m actually the opposite. My keyboard hand will get sore more easily. Especially when having to keep track of a bunch of keys besides movement.
So considering that WASD is also an effective DPS increase (meaning it will become mandatory when it’s implemented, even if there’s a setting for it), it’s less an accessibility feature and more just a sign of the times.
Sadly I’m also one with performance issues. And real weird ones at that.
These happen only in echos. Not in dungeons, not in arena, not in campaign. It is especially bad with my DA Marksman.
These drops last from 1 seconds to ~10 seconds. Why are they weird? Because they don’t have a realiable trigger. Most of the time I can clear huge groups of enemies without any drops and stable fps (ranging from ~60 to 120 depending on the map).
But then sometimes my FPS just drop to 5 fps or less till every enemy on the screen is dead. Yes, that means the fps only recover when the last enemy is dead. In other words: there are times when I have ~5 fps with only a single enemy on screen. When that happens neither my graphics card nor my CPU are maxed out.
These drops happen more frequently when playing for longer, but they can also happen within ~5 min of logging in.
The only thing that somewhat helped was using Process Lasso to remove the cpu affinity from my core 0 for LE. Somehow this reduced the less severe drops in frequency quite drastically and gave me a 10 - 20 fps boost. My guess as to why would be too many background processes that run on core 0 but that is just a wild guess. A quick test just manually closing processes did not show any meaningful or realiable improvement.
Specs: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, 32GB RAM @3200hz, GTX 4070, installed on SSD, playing at 2560x1440. That should be powerful enough considering the recommended specs from the Steam storepage.
The problem I have is mainly in my index finger, hovering it above the button(s). I don’t have that issue on the keyboard because I can rest my fingers lightly on the keys and not inadvertently do actions I didn’t intend. Which is something that happens when resting my finger on the mouse button. /shrug
I’m not saying your issue is silly or anything. I’m just saying my personal experience is different. Specifically regarding your example, my index finger and middle fingers are mostly resting on the mouse buttons, with the index finger mostly pressing the button since most of the time you’re walking. I don’t have an issue with that. It’s probably some habit of using the mouse that we do differently.
My issue with WASD is simply that I’ll be using it, then have to crook my fingers all the time to hit skill keys. Or stop moving to do so. I don’t find it a natural position for me and that tends to give me more pain than mouse ever does.
Again, I’m not saying that I’m right and you’re not. I’m just pointing out that different people have different issues. And if this was simply a choice between 2 equal options, there would be no issue with it. But WASD is clearly superior in terms of DPS/Defence, so if it comes to the game it will become mandatory.
So what, for some players, is an accessibility issue and an important feature, when it comes to the game it will reverse the situation where for other players not having WASD will also be one.
And, to clarify, I’m not saying we shouldn’t have WASD. I’ve made my peace that it will become a thing at some point and that I’ll have to adapt to it. Just that WASD isn’t simply an accessibility feature and is more than that, and that it will also bring its own issues to the game.
